What to Expect
As an Additive Manufacturing Engineer in the die shop, you will play a key role in supporting our team in the production of Tesla’s high-pressure die casting (HPDC) dies. You will be responsible for material selection, processing development, analysis, and validation as it is related to manufacturing additive inserts.
What You'll Do
- Hands on operations of Additive Manufacturing (AM) machines and post-processing
- Closely collaborate with tool design engineers to develop and optimize parts to leverage AM technology
- Work closely with AM machine’s manufacturers to develop process specifications and printing parameters
- Characterize fabricated parts to understand defects and mechanical properties
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and correct issues associated with process or equipment
- Provide input for new product development
- Lead in-house maintenance of AM machines, working with technicians
- Support on afternoon or night shifts as needed to sustain 24x7 production
- Lead the projects for improving machine uptime, powder yield, quality of prints
What You'll Bring
- Degreee in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in operating Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) equipment such as EOS, SLM Solutions etc., and other AM technologies
- Metal AM process knowledge in making successful builds and experience working with metal alloys commonly applied in tooling and automotive industries
- Fluent with 3D CAD software (i.e. Solidworks, Creo, etc.) and proficient in using Magics and other software focusing on design for AM and build-file preparation
- Knowledge and application of post printing processes for metal 3D printed parts, such as heat treatment schedules, surface finishing, and powder removal
- Working level understanding statistical process control, design of experiments
