AI Engineering Lead — Beni Health

Beni is live. Real patients. Real clinical conversations. Real revenue. We handle patient interactions through voice AI and multi-modal messaging, coordinate care between visits, and generate measurable outcomes inside primary care practices.
What we're building next is the agentic layer that makes all of that dramatically more capable. We need an engineering lead to build it.
What you'll own:
- Architecture and implementation of Beni's agentic AI systems: orchestration, memory, tool use, multi-step reasoning
- Our voice AI pipeline — real patients are having real clinical conversations with our system today; you'll make it better, faster, smarter
- EMR integrations connecting Beni's intelligence to clinical data (FHIR, HL7, and whatever else the practice world throws at you)
- Production reliability for AI outputs in clinical settings: evaluation frameworks, monitoring, graceful failure handling
- Backend infrastructure that scales without becoming a liability
What we're looking for:
- Deep hands-on experience building AI systems in production: LLMs, RAG, agentic orchestration, voice AI, or some combination
- Strong backend fundamentals: APIs, async systems, data pipelines
- Real experience with or genuine appetite for healthcare data standards and EMR integrations
- Judgment to know when to build and when to integrate
- Self-directed — you surface blockers early and move without being pushed
- Exceptional written communication (we're distributed and async)
