AI Systems Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Location Requirement: This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and requires regular in-office presence 3 days per week. Please note that the interview process includes in-person interviews, so candidates should be local to the Bay Area or able to travel onsite.

You may not have spent a decade writing Ruby on Rails—but you’ve likely spent countless hours experimenting with LLMs, building tools, automating workflows, or exploring what AI-native software development could look like.

What You'll Do

• Build and ship production features in Ruby on Rails.
• Design and prototype AI-powered tools, workflows, and systems.
• Explore how AI can fundamentally change how software is built and operated.
• Experiment rapidly and turn promising ideas into production systems.
• Work closely with senior engineers while helping push the team forward in AI capabilities.

What We're Looking For

Ruby / Engineering Fundamentals

• ~2–3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building applications with Ruby on Rails.
• Solid understanding of APIs, databases, and backend systems.

You don’t need to be a Rails expert yet—but you should be comfortable building real applications.

Strong AI Builder Mindset

You’ve spent significant time building with AI, not just using it to write code.

This could include:

• Building AI-powered tools or internal developer tooling
• Creating AI-driven workflows or automation
• Experimenting with LLM APIs, agents, or prompt pipelines
• Integrating AI into applications or systems

What matters most is that you’ve already been exploring what AI-native software development looks like.

What Will Stand Out

• Side projects involving AI-powered systems or tools
• Open-source AI experiments
• Creative uses of LLM APIs or AI automation
• Building tools that change how software gets built
