About The Role We are seeking an experienced AI/ML Engineer (Subject Matter Expert) to join our team supporting the MODES III program within Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). This role is pivotal in architecting, developing, and integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities into our application development efforts.

The ideal candidate will lead the design and implementation of AI/ML features to enhance application functionality, automate processes, and improve mission outcomes. This position is remote, requiring an active Secret clearance, and offers an exciting opportunity to work on impactful projects that support national security interests.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret clearance is required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or 10 years with a Master’s degree (MS/MA).
  • Alternatively, 8 years of experience with a PhD or 16 years without a degree, or 14 years with an Associate’s degree (AS/AA).
  • Demonstrated capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce, validated through industry certifications such as A+ or Network+, or documented military/educational training as per DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.
  • Preferred candidates may hold an active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and iterative development practices.
  • Knowledge of machine learning model deployment, MLOps pipelines, and AI/ML frameworks in production environments.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+ are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and integrate AI and machine learning capabilities into the MODES III application development lifecycle to improve functionality, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the design and development of AI/ML-enabled application features supporting the program’s objectives.
  • Apply advanced machine learning techniques, including natural language processing and automation strategies, to enhance decision support and user interaction.
  • Oversee the integration of AI/ML components into existing application architectures, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Establish model development, training, validation, and deployment processes aligned with Agile development practices.
  • Collaborate closely with application developers, product owners, and DevSecOps teams to ensure AI/ML solutions meet functional requirements and adhere to release schedules.
  • Ensure all AI/ML implementations comply with government security standards, data handling protocols, and ethical guidelines.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on AI/ML approaches used within the project, guiding best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Utilize tools and frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face transformers, LangChain, RAG toolkits, FAISS, Pinecone, SageMaker, Vertex AI, MLflow, Kubeflow, Terraform, CloudFormation, EKS, GPU EC2, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, AWS Lake Formation, QuickSight, Tableau, Secrets Manager, and KMS.
