What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets Global Investment Banking division is seeking an Analyst to join the Financial Institutions Group (“FIG”) team based in Toronto. RBC is a market leader in FIG advisory and capital markets financing in Canada. The group covers a number of sub-verticals, including Insurance, Banking & Lending, Asset & Wealth Management, Consumer & Specialty Finance and FinTech. We support our clients through a variety of transactions including M&A, strategic alternative mandates, capital structure advisory and equity and debt financings. FIG has been one of the most active M&A sectors in Canada and the team is highly focused on live M&A execution, providing meaningful deal experience alongside developing client coverage. The Analyst role involves working collaboratively with product and coverage partners across RBC’s global platform to deliver the best advice possible to our clients.

This position is a unique opportunity to develop a broad financial skillset and gain exposure to global capital markets. The role is intended for individuals who wish to build a long-term career in Investment Banking with a market leading franchise and global platform.

What will you do?

  • Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of corporate clients, including developing and maintaining complex financial models
  • Supporting transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
  • Financial and written analysis of companies and industries
  • Contributing to the delivery of client meetings and presentations
  • Conducting research to analyze market trends
  • Researching and analyzing future opportunities
  • Contributing to the execution of mergers and acquisitions, strategic advisory assignments, and equity and debt financings

What do you need to succeed?

  • 1-2 years of investment banking, private equity, equity research, corporate development or advisory experience
  • Undergraduate degree program in Finance, Accounting, Engineering or a quantitative field from a leading university
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Value and possess strong competency in the following behaviours: Collaboration, Relationship Building, Communication, Integrity and Operating with Diverse and Inclusive Mindset
  • The ability to perform effectively in a team environment and excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines

  • CFA, CPA, P.Eng. or other relevant professional designations are considered an asset but not a requirement
