WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Valuations Group (within Product Control) performs a critical 2nd line of defense control over the fair valuation of financial instruments held within RBC Capital Markets.

In this role you will be responsible for pricing and independently valuing (Independent Price Verification, IPV) Equity and Equity Derivative products to ensure that they are a fair representation of traded markets.

IPV results, along with any other Valuation Adjustments (VAs), are reported and communicated at least monthly. The role will collaborate closely with several impacted stakeholder groups including Finance, Front Office Trading teams and Enterprise/Market Risk (including Model Validation).

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

o Conducting daily, weekly and monthly IPV and VA calculation relating to various Equity related products, including derivatives (e.g. listed and OTC vanilla options (call/put), variance swaps, capped variance swaps, dividend swaps, volatility swaps, exotic options, cliquets, equity-linked notes, etc.). Coverage will include Canada, US, EMEA and APAC markets, across global Equity desks at RBC.

o Utilize technology (e.g. Python) and leverage AI tools (Aiden) available to RBC to enhance Valuation/Market related analytics to add value for multiple stakeholders

o Develop new and enhance existing Valuation policies, including methodology and procedure documentation and sources of external market data, ensure that all VA/IPV processes are complete and follow RBC’s risk policies and procedures.

o Leverage and develop knowledge of equity markets, products and quantitative background to evaluate IPV results and support resolution of IPV difference. Ensure IPV issues outside accepted tolerances are reported and dealt with promptly.

o Explore market data sources for the best measure of fair value for the financial instruments in scope (i.e. equity derivatives).

o Ensure that existing VA/IPV processes continue to be aligned and keep pace with a growing Equities business, and Regulator and Accounting Best Practice.

o Provide detailed reports and analysis to RBC regional valuations committees, business heads, senior managers and heads of Valuations, Market Risk and Finance on VA/IPV results.

o Proactively communicate with Front Office and/or related counterparties to explain IPV/VA results and/or month over month movement. Lead the coordination of solutions in partnership with Product Controllers, Front Office, Market Risk and other internal groups.

o Design, maintain and operate a robust valuations environment to ensure fair value compliance primarily for Equity Derivative (and Equity) products.

o Challenge existing IPV methodologies, working practices and improve data quality and process efficiencies to ensure a robust and up-to-date control environment.

o This role is open for both Analyst/Manager levels, depending on candidate’s level of experience

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

o 0-2 years experience with financial products across various asset classes including derivatives

o Knowledge of Python and database tool such as SQL

o Appreciation of equity markets and an understanding of equity derivatives, their inputs and effects on valuation. Relevant experience in a Product Control role focusing on Equities is an advantage.

o Ability to independently problem solve, work under a high pressure setting and have a strong attention to detail.

o Good written and verbal communication skills.

o Knowledge of Bloomberg, Markit/Totem and other financial analytics platform is a plus.

o Advanced user of Excel/VBA

Nice-to-have:

o Experience of leveraging technologies (Python, AI) to provide in-depth analytics and enhance workflow

o Advanced degree in a quantitative area.

o Knowledge of Bloomberg, Markit/Totem and other financial analytics platform.
