Job Description

We are looking for an Application Support Engineer to join a leading global investment bank's trading floor team in Hong Kong.

You will support Sales and Trading desks across Equities, Credit, Rates, and Derivatives – ensuring system stability, handling incidents, performing deployments, and maintaining trading platforms. The core focus is production support on a fast-paced trading floor.

You will work closely with traders, developers, and infrastructure teams to resolve issues quickly and keep trading systems running smoothly.

⇒ Main Responsibilities

Trading Support & Incident Management

  • Serve as primary contact for trading desks on system issues and order behaviour
  • Manage incidents from exchange problems to internal application bugs
  • Handle communication, coordination, and resolution of technical issues
  • Conduct post-incident reviews and ensure permanent fixes

System Health & Monitoring

  • Perform daily start-of-day (SOD) health checks
  • Conduct weekend and holiday readiness checks
  • Use monitoring tools and improve their effectiveness
  • Maintain high availability of trading systems

Production Deployments & Release Management

  • Schedule, communicate, and execute binary/configuration deployments
  • Act as gatekeeper for production changes (after market close or weekends)

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Create and maintain run-book documentation and procedures
  • Document findings, workflows, and technical designs
  • Automate repetitive tasks and drive operational excellence

Business Analysis Elements (Secondary)

  • Gather and translate business requirements for system enhancements
  • Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Work with development teams on new feature rollouts

Global Coverage

  • Participate in shift roster (rotating early/late shifts)
  • Weekend and holiday support as required (with compensation days)
  • Collaborate with global counterparts in APAC, EMEA, and US

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • University degree – IT or related major preferred
  • 3–8 years of application support experience in a financial institution
  • Minimum 3 years driving projects or coordinating across business lines
  • Knowledge of equities and derivatives products
  • Working knowledge of UNIX and Linux operating systems
  • Proficient in SQL and Shell scripting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good prioritisation skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong team player who can also work independently

Preferred:

  • Front-office trading support experience
  • Experience with Global Prime Finance systems
  • Knowledge of trade life cycle
  • Experience with monitoring and deployment tools
  • Mandarin proficiency
  • Experience managing business and technology stakeholders
