Applied Scientist (AI for Healthcare)

Kadence is partnered with a AI first healthcare company building agentic systems for medical coding. We are looking for an Applied Scientist with strong LLM reasoning and agents background. We need a coder and platform builder, who also has strong research background.

Target Compensation is between $160k-220k base (depending on experience), plus equity.

Location is Bay Area, SF (hybrid )

What you’ll do

• Improve LLM reasoning using post-training (SFT, RL)
• Build agentic systems (multi-step, real-world tasks)
• Design evaluation frameworks to measure model quality
• Optimize models for performance + cost efficiency

What we’re looking for

• Strong ML/NLP background with LLMs or transformers (1.5 years+ industry exp.)
• Experience with RL, fine-tuning, or evaluation of models
• Solid Python + PyTorch (or similar)
• Track record of turning research into real impact
• Ph.D. required in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics background or similar

• Synthetic data, retrieval systems, or long-context models
• Experience with scalable ML systems
