ABOUT THE POSITION
We are looking for a highly analytical, transaction-oriented individual with 2–3 years of experience in energy and infrastructure M&A, project finance, or a related field. The ideal candidate understands the nuances of acquiring, financing, and operating distributed and behind-the-meter energy assets, and is excited to also support commercial origination efforts targeting data center developers, hyperscalers, and other large power consumers. This person thrives in fast-moving deal environments, brings rigorous financial modeling skills, and can operate across origination, diligence, structuring, and closing workstreams with minimal oversight.
What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Associate, Acquisitions & Development:
Acquisitions & M&A Execution
- Lead financial analysis and diligence on acquisitions of distributed energy and BTM assets, including natural gas generation, solar, storage, fuel cells, and related technologies
- Own project-level and portfolio-level financial models, including IRR/yield analysis, cash flow forecasting, scenario/sensitivity analysis, and return attribution
- Coordinate across legal, technical, tax, and financing workstreams to support transaction execution from LOI through closing
- Support structuring of tax equity, construction debt, back-leverage, and other project finance instruments
- Draft and contribute to investment memoranda and IC presentations, synthesizing commercial, financial, and risk considerations
Customer Origination Support
- Support origination efforts targeting data center developers, hyperscalers, and large power consumers by maintaining market maps, tracking active opportunities, and managing CRM pipeline documentation
- Prepare customer-facing materials, pitch decks, and tailored proposals that articulate Generate’s energy solutions to sophisticated commercial counterparties
- Research and monitor the data center and hyperscaler landscape — including capacity expansion plans, power procurement strategies, and key decision-makers — to identify and prioritize prospective customers
- Support senior team members in advancing customer relationships through analytical preparation, meeting materials, and follow-up coordination
Development & Asset Underwriting
- Evaluate project-level development assumptions: site control, permitting status, interconnection, utility tariff structures, and customer credit
- Assess BTM revenue structures, including capacity payments, demand charge reduction, energy arbitrage, utility incentives, and C&I customer contracts
- Interface with Generate’s asset management and operations teams to ground acquisition underwriting in operational reality
Strategy & Portfolio
- Contribute to sector strategy work, including market sizing, competitive positioning, and capital deployment prioritization across BTM verticals
- Support portfolio monitoring and KPI reporting; identify trends across the existing asset base that inform acquisition criteria
- Stay current on policy, regulatory, and market developments affecting distributed energy economics
Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in energy M&A, project finance, infrastructure private equity, or IPP/developer roles with direct exposure to transaction execution
- Hands-on experience underwriting distributed and/or BTM energy assets — natural gas generation, solar, storage, fuel cells, or similar
- Deep financial modeling skills: project finance, tax equity structures, IRR/yield analysis, and portfolio aggregation models
- Familiarity with BTM commercial structures: C&I offtake, demand charge economics, utility incentive programs, and customer credit assessment
- Experience supporting or leading M&A diligence processes, including coordination across legal, technical, and financing workstreams
- Demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, the energy transition and Generate’s mission
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex analyses into clear IC memos and executive presentations
- Comfortable operating autonomously in a dynamic, high-velocity deal environment
- High intellectual curiosity and problem-solving orientation; energized by ambiguity and novel asset types
- Collaborative leadership style with strong judgment under ambiguity
