Overview
This role sits on the factory floor and focuses on designing, programming, and supporting automated manufacturing equipment used for production. You’ll own machines end to end, from control logic and safety to commissioning and handoff to operations. The job blends PLC programming with real electrical and hardware troubleshooting in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Day to Day
- Design and program PLC-controlled automation systems used in manufacturing
- Commission new machines and improve existing equipment on the production line
- Write structured, maintainable PLC code and build simple, operator-friendly HMIs
- Work hands-on with control panels, sensors, drives, and field devices
- Troubleshoot machine faults, whether they come from logic, wiring, or hardware
- Implement and verify machine and robot safety systems
- Partner closely with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to keep equipment running reliably
Hard Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or similar
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial or factory automation
- Strong PLC programming experience, structured text preferred
- Experience commissioning and supporting automated manufacturing equipment
- Understanding of electrical systems, control panels, and industrial safety
- Ability to troubleshoot both software and electrical issues in a live production environment
- Experience working onsite in manufacturing, not just design or simulation
Bonus / Nice to Have Skills
- Beckhoff TwinCAT PLC experience
- Experience with EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, or similar industrial networks
- Electrical design experience including motors, drives, and circuit protection
- Safety PLCs, safety relays, and robot or machine safety systems
- HMI or SCADA experience such as Ignition, OPC UA, or MQTT
- Robotics programming experience, ABB preferred
- Experience with high-volume, precision manufacturing environments
