Job Title: Controls Specialist

Job Description

As a Controls Specialist, you will take ownership of industrial automation projects, collaborating closely with engineers, specialists, and technicians from various groups. Your role involves developing and upgrading data acquisition and control systems while providing technical support and guidance for controls technicians and other non-controls engineering groups. You will efficiently lead technicians and contractors, commission new hardware, and continuously improve team processes to enhance quality and reduce maintenance needs.

  • Location: Brownsville, TX
  • Shift: 6am-6pm, Monday to Friday for 2 weeks then 6am-6pm Monday to Friday for 2 weeks
  • Pay: $38-50/hr depending on experience plus $125/day in per diem

Responsibilities

  • Execute industrial automation projects with hands-on involvement.
  • Provide technical support and guidance for controls technicians and other non-controls engineering groups.
  • Lead technicians and contractors efficiently.
  • Commission new hardware.
  • Perform continuous improvements for team processes, quality, and communication.
  • Prioritize daily tasks and mitigate risks on current and upcoming projects.
  • Draft and redline drawings in Electrical and Fluids Schematics.
  • Act as a liaison between Tooling Engineering and Automation & Controls for controls hardware mounting and cable management.
  • Program PLCs (Siemens) and HMIs according to engineering design.
  • Analyze data to assess electrical systems.
  • Assist in the design and analysis of experiments to evaluate test articles.
  • Perform other related duties to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.

Essential Skills

  • PLC programming (Siemens)
  • Automation and electrical process improvement
  • Robotics troubleshooting
  • Quality assurance and risk analysis
  • Program and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs and HMIs
  • Build, upgrade, and fix electrical, control, and instrumentation systems
  • Draft and update electrical and fluid schematics
  • Install and commission new automation hardware
  • Follow electrical safety codes (NFPA 70/70E/79)
  • Work with electromechanical systems, control cabinets, and industrial networks (Modbus, Profinet, or EtherNet/IP)

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with 480V systems
  • Programming, AutoCAD, and quality control
  • Design skills
  • Ability to perform hands-on work in all environments, including heat, cold, and rain
  • Capability to work in tight quarters or at heights
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Focus in hazardous environments while wearing appropriate PPE
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for emergencies
  • Valid driver’s license

Work Environment

The work environment includes both outdoor and indoor settings across multiple sites, requiring the ability to work in varying weather conditions. The role involves working extended hours and weekends to support launch operations, with a focus on safety and effectiveness in potentially hazardous environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided, and the dress code supports the operational demands of the position.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $50.00/hr.
