What is the role?

Building upon foundational data skills, this role advances Westerra’s analytics capabilities by designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions and complex data workflows. This individual will directly contribute to enhancing the organization’s analytical maturity and data-driven decision-making through technical leadership and hands-on development.

What will be expected of me?

  • Contribute to the ongoing implementation of Westerra’s data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to understand needs, propose scalable solutions, and clarify complex data issues.
  • Design and develop advanced data solutions addressing a wide variety of analytical challenges.
  • Write complex queries, perform data transformations, aggregations, and develop optimized stored procedures.
  • Build, enhance, and maintain advanced data models for high-performance dashboarding and analytics.
  • Respond to and complete ad-hoc data requests and in-depth analyses.
  • Provide mentorship and review the work of junior data team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What am I bringing?

Experience/Education:

  • 6+ years’ experience in data analysis, reporting, and ETL development
  • 5+ years’ experience writing and tuning SQL queries
  • 2+ years' experience with reporting and analytics platforms (Tableau, SSRS, or PowerBI)
  • Experience with cloud data technologies
  • 2+ years’ experience with ETL tools such as SSIS (preferred)
  • Experience with advanced analytics tools such as DataBricks, Azure Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric (preferred)
  • Experience with R or Python a plus
  • Credit Union experience a plus

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated continuous learning and the ability to apply that learning to projects
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills
  • Maintains high-level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work with cross departmental teams with varying levels of technical experience to understand appropriate business strategies and objectives and ensure alignment with data solutions
  • Strong understanding of data integration, source target mapping and business rules transformation in heterogeneous systems environment
  • Knowledge of database engines and technologies including SQL Server, MySQL, and AWS Athena
  • Understanding of data management principles and best practices including data quality, security, and data integration
  • Can be accountable for managing projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision
  • Acts autonomously on most decisions. Requires guidance on more complex judgments.
  • Advanced understanding of Westerra’s business and a growing awareness of the broader competitive landscape
  • Able to handle problems that are difficult and sometimes complex
  • Ability to influence timelines, expectations, and proactively negotiate within department

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?

  • Hybrid: Typically, a dispersed, flexible team environment both on Westerra campus (at least 2x/week) and remote. Employees must reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate prior to starting employment. Residency is required for payroll and state tax purposes.

Salary: in addition to the starting annual rate of $85,871 - $109,000, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if
