Job Description

About NextStep

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are looking for a Channel Strategy Manager.

About the Company

Our client is one of the largest media companies in Europe, with a portfolio spanning digital content platforms, broadcast channels, and live events. They operate across more than 15 markets, generate significant revenue through a mix of advertising, subscription, and partnership models, and are in the middle of a meaningful strategic shift toward digital-first distribution. The commercial strategy function is at the centre of that shift, and this role sits within it.

THE ROLE

As Channel Strategy Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the strategic frameworks that guide how the company allocates investment and effort across its distribution channels. You will analyse performance, identify opportunities, and translate findings into clear recommendations that influence how the business prioritises its commercial activity. This is a role that requires both analytical depth and the ability to communicate with conviction to senior commercial and product leadership.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop and maintain channel strategy frameworks that define how the company approaches digital, broadcast, and partnership distribution across its key markets.
  • Analyse channel performance data to identify trends, gaps, and growth opportunities, translating findings into actionable recommendations for commercial leadership.
  • Lead strategic reviews of underperforming or emerging channels, including competitive benchmarking, audience analysis, and investment case development.
  • Work closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to ensure channel strategy is reflected in go-to-market plans and product development priorities.
  • Support the Head of Commercial Strategy in preparing materials for senior leadership and board-level reviews.
  • Monitor the broader media landscape, including platform trends, audience behaviour shifts, and competitive moves, and maintain a current, informed point of view.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives including partnerships evaluation, pricing strategy, and new market entry assessments.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of experience in strategy, commercial analysis, or management consulting, with exposure to media, entertainment, or digital platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills; able to interrogate complex, multi-source data sets and produce clear, structured outputs.
  • Familiarity with digital distribution models, advertising ecosystems, or subscription economics is a meaningful advantage.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; able to build a compelling strategic narrative from quantitative foundations.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional relationships and influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Comfortable working in a large, matrixed organisation while maintaining the pace and output quality of a smaller team.
  • Intellectually curious about how media consumption is evolving and what it means for commercial strategy.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £80,000 - £100,000, determined based on experience and scope.
  • Annual performance bonus reflective of individual and business unit outcomes.
  • Additional benefits, including private health cover, pension, and leave entitlement, are detailed as part of the full offer package.
