Job Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Chassis In-Process & Testing Engineer to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will ensure chassis assemblies meet design, quality and safety requirements through in-process inspections, test planning, troubleshooting and continuous improvement. If you are methodical, technically competent and enjoy working in a collaborative production environment, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities – In-process Inspection & Testing
- Plan, develop and execute in-process inspection and testing activities for chassis assemblies during manufacture to verify conformance with design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Create, maintain and improve test plans, inspection checklists, work instructions and test data recording formats to ensure consistent and auditable quality control.
- Perform hands-on functional, dimensional and electrical tests (where applicable), including static and dynamic checks, load tests, alignment and fitment verification.
- Operate and calibrate test equipment, jigs and fixtures; identify requirements for new test tooling and support procurement or fabrication as needed.
- Monitor production processes, carry out first article inspections and sampling plans, and intervene promptly to contain non-conforming product and prevent escape to subsequent operations.
- Investigate failures and non-conformances using root cause analysis techniques; propose and implement corrective and preventive actions with production and engineering teams.
- Ensure accurate test data capture, document results, compile test reports and maintain traceability of inspected components and assemblies in line with company procedures.
- Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production and Supplier Quality to communicate issues, feedback design improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support validation of design changes, prototype builds and pre-production runs by defining test criteria, executing pre-release tests and providing formal sign-offs.
- Contribute to health, safety and environmental standards on the shop floor; ensure testing activities comply with statutory and company safety requirements.
Required Skills – Testing, Inspection, Communication
- Practical experience in in-process inspection, functional testing and quality assurance within chassis, automotive, heavy engineering or related manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies, dimensional measurement techniques, tolerancing, fasteners, bearings and basic electrical systems where applicable.
- Proficiency using hand and calibrated measuring tools (vernier, micrometre, dial gauge), basic test instrumentation and data logging equipment.
- Analytical approach to problem solving with experience of root cause analysis tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA preferred) and implementing corrective actions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English; able to prepare clear test reports, non-conformance records and communicate findings to multidisciplinary teams.
- Competence with Microsoft Office applications and experience working with quality management systems and basic database/ERP or MES test records.
Traits – Attention to Detail and Teamwork
- Detail-oriented and methodical; committed to producing reliable, high-quality results and maintaining accurate records.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to balance production targets and quality requirements.
- Collaborative team-player who can work effectively with production staff, engineers and suppliers to drive improvements.
- Adaptable and resilient; able to respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Typically 2+ years’ experience in chassis or mechanical assembly inspection, testing or quality roles within manufacturing or engineering sectors.
- Awareness of relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for chassis/vehicle components is desirable.
- Experience with test plan development, first article inspection and production support during ramp-up phases is advantageous.
What We Offer – Development and Support
- Structured onboarding and ongoing technical training to support your development in testing and quality engineering.
- Opportunity to work on complex chassis products within a collaborative, safety-focused and inclusive workplace.
- Competitive remuneration package with opportunities for career progression and skills development.
