Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes and equipment.

• Conduct process simulations, material and energy balances, and economic evaluations.

• Perform root cause analysis for process deviations and implement corrective actions.

• Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure operational efficiency and product quality.

• Collaborate with R&D teams to scale up laboratory-developed processes to pilot and commercial production.

• Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards.

• Prepare detailed technical reports, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and operational staff.

• Participate in risk assessments and hazard operability (HAZOP) studies.

• Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements for existing processes.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering.

• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).

• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex chemical processes.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Solid understanding of relevant safety and environmental regulations.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration.

• Experience in specific industries such as pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, or food processing.

• Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.

• Knowledge of advanced process control (APC) systems.
