Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are looking for a Chief of Staff to work directly with the CEO.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a Series C FinTech company headquartered in London, operating in the embedded finance space. They serve enterprise clients across retail, insurance, and lending, have a product with strong market traction, and are in the phase of growth where the demands on the CEO's time and the complexity of running the business have outpaced what the existing team can absorb. The Chief of Staff will be the person who changes that.

THE ROLE

As Chief of Staff, you will extend the CEO's capacity and effectiveness across the full range of things that matter most to the business. You will own the operating rhythm of the executive team, lead high-priority projects on the CEO's behalf, prepare the materials that shape major decisions, and act as a trusted liaison between the CEO and the rest of the organisation. This is a role that requires exceptional judgement, high discretion, and the ability to move between strategic and operational work without losing quality in either direction.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own the CEO's operating cadence, including leadership team meetings, board preparation, investor communications, and strategic planning cycles.
  • Lead high-priority cross-functional projects assigned by the CEO, taking ambiguous briefs and delivering structured, well-executed outcomes.
  • Prepare briefing documents, board papers, investor materials, and strategic presentations to a consistently high standard.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for the executive team and senior stakeholders, managing information flow, follow-through, and accountability on behalf of the CEO.
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional issues that would otherwise consume disproportionate CEO time or slow the business.
  • Support the CEO in preparing for external engagements, including investor meetings, partnership discussions, and media appearances.
  • Contribute to organisational design, headcount planning, and people-related decisions as a trusted advisor to the CEO.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, or a senior strategy or operations role, with clear evidence of working at or near the most senior level of an organisation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to produce board-quality materials and represent the CEO with credibility in any setting.
  • Strong structured thinking and analytical foundations; able to frame a problem clearly and move quickly to a well-reasoned recommendation.
  • High emotional intelligence and the interpersonal skills to build trust with diverse stakeholders at every level of the organisation.
  • Discreet, composed, and able to handle sensitive information and situations with maturity.
  • Energised by variety, pace, and the challenge of working across everything that matters most to the business at once.
  • Prior experience in a Chief of Staff or EA-plus-strategy role is an advantage but not a requirement for the right candidate.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £95,000 - £125,000, determined based on experience and scope.
  • Meaningful equity participation at the Series C stage with standard vesting terms.
  • Additional benefits, including private health cover, pension, and leave entitlement, are detailed as part of the full offer package.
