The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) plays a vital role in our executive team, overseeing the comprehensive management of risk for the credit union. This position is essential for ensuring compliance, safeguarding member assets, and supporting sustainable growth.

What You Get To Do:

  • Risk Management
  • Establish and execute a comprehensive enterprise risk management (ERM) framework to identify and address risks across the organization.
  • Advise the CEO and Board on risk exposure and strategic mitigation efforts.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to integrate risk management into the core operations and strategic planning processes.
  • Internal Audit
  • Supervise the internal audit function, assessing the credit union’s internal control effectiveness.
  • Oversee co-sourcing partners to fulfill the audit plan and ensure thorough control assessments.
  • Create and implement a risk-based internal audit plan targeting key risks.
  • Present findings and recommendations to the CEO and Board, ensuring prompt resolution of issues.
  • Vendor Management
  • Manage third-party risk, ensuring relationships are assessed for their control efficacy and alignment with our strategic goals.
  • Records Retention
  • Leverage the records retention program to ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory standards.
  • Develop policies for secure storage and disposal of sensitive information.
  • Conduct regular reviews of the program to maintain efficacy and compliance.
  • Business Continuity Management
  • Lead the development of a business continuity plan (BCP) to maintain operations during crises.
  • Organize regular testing and training to ensure preparedness and continuous improvement.
  • Corporate Insurance
  • Oversee our corporate insurance program, ensuring all operational, financial, and liability risks are covered adequately.
  • Evaluate and select insurance providers and negotiate terms as necessary.
  • Regularly review and update our coverage in line with changes to our risk profile.
  • Manage claims processes and notifications related to potential or actual claims.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Affairs
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations specific to credit unions.
  • Stay attuned to regulatory changes and their operational impacts.
  • Collaborate with our compliance team to build policies that meet regulatory standards.
  • Team Leadership and Development
  • Lead and cultivate the risk management, internal audit, and vendor management teams, fostering a culture of accountability and improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations for direct reports and support their attainment.
  • Ensure effective succession planning within the risk management and related functions.
  • Board and Executive Collaboration
  • Act as a key advisor to the CEO and board on risk matters, providing regular updates.
  • Collaborate with senior executives to align risk management with overall business objectives.
  • Deliver reports and recommendations to board committees to enhance transparency.
  • Strategic Initiatives
  • Participate in strategic planning, ensuring risks are considered in long-term goals.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects involving risk management and compliance.
  • Support innovation initiatives by evaluating risks and suggesting aligned solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We Look For In You:

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance is necessary. An MBA and Certified Internal Auditor designation are preferred.

EXPERIENCE: At least 15 years of progressive management experience within a financial institution is required. Candidates should possess a strong risk management background and be familiar with the COSO framework.
