Job Description

We are currently seeking a full-time Client Portfolio Manager to join our Client & Product Solutions team.

As a Client Portfolio Manager (CPM), you will serve as a key investment liaison across RPIA’s client base, supporting engagement across institutional, retail, and private wealth channels. This role is designed to act as a scalable extension of the investment team – enhancing the consistency and quality of client communication while reducing the time senior Portfolio Managers spend in client-facing activities.

The CPM will partner closely with Portfolio Managers and the sales team to clearly articulate portfolio strategy, positioning, and market insights, ensuring alignment and consistency of messaging across all client segments. While highly technical and client-facing, this role does not carry portfolio management or discretionary investment responsibility. The CPM will support client coverage across all channels and ensure clear, consistent communication of portfolio strategy and positioning across the firm’s entire client base.

The duties and responsibilities of the Client Portfolio Manager include but are not limited to:

  • Client Engagement & Investment Representation
  • Act as an investment representative supporting client engagement across institutional, retail, and private wealth channels.
  • Participate in client meetings, including board and investment committee presentations, alongside sales and senior investment team members.
  • Clearly articulate portfolio construction, positioning rationale, performance, and market outlook in a client-appropriate manner.
  • Translate complex investment concepts into clear, concise, and compelling insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support relationship development in partnership with the sales team, who retain ownership of client relationships.
  • Investment Communication & Strategy Alignment
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of portfolio positioning, investment strategies, fund structures, and mandate guidelines across all strategies.
  • Ensure consistency of investment messaging across client segments by aligning closely with Portfolio Managers and Client & Product Solutions.
  • Provide forward-looking market perspectives aligned with portfolio strategy.
  • Act as a conduit between investment teams and clients to ensure accurate and consistent communication.
  • Client Deliverables
  • Support the preparation and delivery of client materials including quarterly reviews, presentations, and ad hoc updates.
  • Review and contribute to performance commentary, attribution insights, and client communications.
  • Partner with internal teams (Risk & Analytics, Operations, Compliance) to ensure accuracy and consistency of client deliverables.
  • Business Development Support
  • Support business development initiatives by participating in prospect meetings and client presentations across all channels.
  • Contribute to RFPs, DDQs, and other client-facing materials.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to deepen relationships and expand mandates within existing clients.
  • Support engagement with institutional consultants, financial advisors, and direct clients as applicable.
  • Thought Leadership & Content Development
  • Develop market commentaries, white papers, and client communications in partnership with Client & Product Solutions and Investment Management.
  • Contribute to the creation of presentation materials and product positioning documents (e.g., monthly/quarterly commentaries, updates, trade spotlights).
  • Represent the firm at client events, conferences, and industry forums as an investment subject matter expert when appropriate.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers, sales, compliance, and operations teams.
  • Provide client feedback and market insights to investment teams to inform strategy and product development.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of portfolio guidelines and constraints to effectively communicate positioning within client mandates.

Critical Competencies

  • Investment & Technical Expertise – Advanced knowledge of global fixed income markets (cash and derivatives), portfolio construction, fund structures, and quantitative bond analysis. Ability to clearly articulate portfolio strategy and positioning without assuming portfolio risk or discretionary authority.
  • Client Channel Expertise – Strong understanding of institutional, retail, and private wealth client segments, including their objectives, decision-making processes, and portfolio construction needs.
