Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are currently looking for a Commercial Director to join their team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a leading UK logistics and supply chain business headquartered in London, serving FMCG, retail, and pharmaceutical clients across the UK and Europe. With revenues of £900m and a dedicated enterprise commercial division that is the engine of the group's growth, the business is investing in leadership to accelerate market share and improve commercial performance in an increasingly competitive market. The Commercial Director will be a member of the Executive Committee.

THE ROLE

As Commercial Director, you will own the full commercial P&L for the enterprise division — setting strategy, leading the sales and account management team, and driving profitable growth across a portfolio of large, complex client relationships. You will be a key figure on the Executive Committee, shaping the company's commercial direction and ensuring the business consistently delivers on its revenue commitments.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own the enterprise commercial P&L, including revenue targets, margin performance, and cost of sales.
  • Lead a team of 25 across enterprise sales, account management, and commercial operations, setting direction and building capability.
  • Drive the commercial strategy for winning new enterprise clients and expanding existing relationships.
  • Oversee major contract renewals and new business negotiations, taking personal ownership of the largest deals.
  • Partner with Operations, Pricing, and Finance to ensure commercial offers are competitive, deliverable, and profitable.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 12–18 years of experience in commercial, sales, or business development roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity with P&L accountability.
  • Proven track record of growing revenue and margin in a large B2B business with complex, multi-year enterprise contracts.
  • Strong leadership credentials, able to build high-performing commercial teams and drive a culture of accountability.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and executive presence, comfortable engaging with C-suite client stakeholders.
  • Logistics, supply chain, or distribution experience is a strong advantage.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £160,000 – £200,000, depending on experience.
  • Significant performance bonus with P&L-linked upside.
  • LTIP participation and executive share scheme.
  • Private health cover, executive pension, and 28 days holiday.
