Our client, a global Am Law–recognized law firm known for its commitment to innovation and data-driven strategy, is seeking an Innovation Data Scientist to join its team on a contract basis. This role will focus on designing and deploying advanced AI and machine learning solutions that enhance legal service delivery and firm performance. Partnering closely with attorneys and business leaders, the Data Scientist will translate complex legal workflows into scalable AI applications, build and evaluate RAG pipelines and LLM-powered tools, and establish rigorous evaluation and governance frameworks to ensure accuracy, robustness, and business impact. The ideal candidate brings significant demonstrated experience delivering enterprise AI and ML solutions, strong Python and data engineering expertise, hands-on experience with modern AI platforms and vector databases, and the ability to communicate complex insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Architect and prototype intelligent systems using modern AI and ML approaches, including retrieval-based pipelines, semantic search, vector storage integrations, and orchestration frameworks to evaluate scalability and performance
- Develop practical applications supporting contract analytics, document intelligence, comparative agreement review, transaction diligence, summarization, and other high-value domain use cases
- Design and implement enterprise-grade validation standards to measure accuracy, resilience, bias mitigation, hallucination controls, fairness, and business-aligned success metrics with continuous monitoring
- Build modular tools, reusable components, documentation, and standardized development frameworks to accelerate responsible AI solution delivery across teams
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary technical and business groups to prioritize initiatives, co-create solutions, and support successful adoption within various practice or service areas
- Present findings, trade-offs, technical limitations, risk considerations, and anticipated impact in clear and accessible language tailored to non-technical audiences
- Assess emerging technologies, open-source ecosystems, and external platforms to inform technology direction and contribute to broader AI enablement initiatives
- Support capability building by mentoring technical colleagues, encouraging knowledge transfer, and strengthening applied AI expertise across the organization
What You Will Bring
- Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field with advanced study considered advantageous
- Significant experience delivering applied AI or machine learning solutions in complex professional or enterprise environments with strong cross-functional engagement
- Advanced proficiency in Python for analytics, modeling, and prototyping along with experience using modern ML frameworks and data manipulation libraries; strong SQL capabilities and experience engineering pipelines for both structured and unstructured data
- Hands-on experience with contemporary AI platforms, language model tooling, retrieval systems, vector databases, and graph-enhanced applications within secure enterprise environments
- Demonstrated ability to define and operationalize evaluation methodologies for production AI systems including ongoing monitoring for performance reliability, hallucination management, robustness, bias mitigation, and fairness
- Experience using data visualization tools to communicate insights effectively and translate technical findings into practical, decision-ready recommendations
- Familiarity with domain-specific applications such as document analysis, regulatory review, due diligence, or research workflows within a professional services context
- Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines, guide peers, and influence the adoption of advanced AI capabilities at scale
