Job Description

The contractor will support the Advanced Test Demonstrator (ATD) program by taking over LabVIEW test and control software development activities so the internal engineering team can continue building and validating the system without delays. Day to day, the contractor will develop, maintain, and extend LabVIEW code modules that interact with the ATD hardware and data acquisition environment. Work will be performed in close coordination with Controls Engineering and lab stakeholders to understand test requirements, troubleshoot software/hardware integration issues, and implement changes quickly and safely. The role will also require a working understanding of how sensors, actuators, and wiring/connectors relate to software signals (e.g., how channels/map names relate to physical inputs/outputs). The contractor will help translate requirements into reliable software behavior, ensuring the software supports validation, repeatable testing, and accurate data collection. In addition, the contractor will document code/module behavior and updates, and provide support for test execution (including debugging and iterative improvements) as the platform evolves.

Required Skills and Experience

  • LabVIEW development experience delivering test/control software, including building and maintaining real applications (not just small examples).
  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in LabVIEW (classes, modular design, scalable code structure).
  • Ability to work comfortably in a hardware-interfacing test environment (data acquisition, device I/O concepts, signal mapping).
  • Basic electrical engineering familiarity sufficient to collaborate effectively and understand wiring/signal intent, including:
  • familiarity with sensors/actuator concepts
  • understanding of signal types (digital/analog), pinouts/channel mapping at a high level
  • comfort discussing wiring/connectors with engineers/lab technicians
  • Strong debugging skills: able to trace test failures in LabVIEW, identify likely causes, and implement fixes in collaboration with the team.
  • Clear documentation habits (e.g., readable module structure, usage notes, change logs, and handoff support).

Nice to Have Skills and Experience

  • Experience integrating LabVIEW with common instrumentation/DAQ ecosystems used in manufacturing labs.
  • Prior experience with test stands, validation frameworks, or automated test workflows.
  • Experience supporting software changes based on redlines/physical test findings (tight software-to-hardware iteration).
