Job Description:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the automation systems that operate manufacturing equipment across the plant, while supporting and managing automation improvement projects.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Program, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems that control manufacturing equipment
- Diagnose automation issues when production equipment stops or behaves incorrectly
- Support and manage automation projects such as PLC upgrades, control network improvements, and system integrations
- Oversee third-party vendors and contractors implementing automation solutions
- Upgrade and maintain Ignition platforms and FactoryTalk environments
- Implement and maintain data logging solutions from existing PLC systems
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to improve plant automation
- Maintain and update control system infrastructure documentation and network mapping
- Review and redline engineering drawings using AutoCAD as needed
Requirements:
Must-Haves:
- 8–10 years of Controls Engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial plant environment
- Strong experience with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley/ Rockwell, Siemens)
- Hands-on experience with SCADA and HMI systems
- Experience with Ignition platforms
- Familiarity with FactoryTalk and RSLogix
- Ability to troubleshoot existing automation systems and support new system implementations
- Experience managing projects and coordinating vendors/contractors
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (ability to review and redline drawings)
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience within food & beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, or process manufacturing industries
- Experience with P&IDs
- Experience in dry powder or similar process environments
- Experience implementing plant data logging or manufacturing data systems
