Rockwell Controls Systems Engineer
Location: Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Camarillo, Simi Valley, Oxnard, Ventura County area Salary: $90,000 to $135,000 depending on experience
Schedule: On site Monday to Friday, with a light rotating support phone
This is a stable, on site Rockwell controls role supporting a major life sciences manufacturing environment.
You will be embedded with a small engineering team, working directly with manufacturing, R&D, operations, and site engineering teams to keep critical process systems running properly. The role is hands-on, customer-facing, and focused on real production support rather than constant travel or short-term project churn.
The hiring company is an established industrial automation engineering business with a long track record across regulated manufacturing, process automation, and industrial control systems. Engineers tend to stay long term because the work is steady, the benefits are strong, and people are trusted to get on with their jobs.
What you'll do
You'll support Rockwell ControlLogix PLCs, FactoryTalk HMIs, SCADA systems, and associated process automation equipment across a regulated manufacturing site.
Day to day, that means picking up change requests from manufacturing, R&D, and operations, then running them through properly. You might update PLC logic, modify HMI screens, test changes in development, release them to production, retest, and document everything clearly.
You'll also support root cause investigations, continuous improvement work, system administration, hot fix planning, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, spare parts management, and automation support for process equipment, utilities, and facilities.
The support phone is shared across a five-person team, roughly one week per month. Out-of-hours calls are rare, but you do need to be comfortable holding the phone and responding properly when needed.
What you'll need
You'll need 2 to 8 years of industrial automation experience, with solid hands-on Rockwell experience.
ControlLogix experience is the main requirement. FactoryTalk View Studio, PlantPAx, GEMS, or regulated manufacturing experience would all be useful, but you do not need to tick every box.
This would suit someone who can communicate well with end users, work cleanly inside SOPs and change control, and take ownership of small to medium automation changes without needing constant direction.
Life sciences, biotech, pharmaceutical, food safety, or other regulated manufacturing experience would be ideal, but strong Rockwell engineers from other industrial environments will also be considered.
A degree in Electrical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline is preferred, but strong hands-on experience can be considered in place of this.
Why this role is worth considering
This is not a heavy travel systems integrator role, and it is not a short-term contract that disappears when one project ends.
You get the stability of a long-term embedded site role, but with the backing and career path of a serious automation engineering company behind you.
Reasons engineers join include:
The working setup
This is an on site role, five days per week. Hybrid is not available for this position because of the nature of the site support.
The role is best suited to someone already based within reach of Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Camarillo, Simi Valley, Oxnard, Ventura County, or the western Los Angeles area.
Relocation can be considered, but timing matters. The hiring team is looking to move quickly, so this will suit someone who can interview and start without a long delay.
The kind of person who will do well
You do not need to be the most senior Rockwell engineer in California.
You do need to be steady, practical, curious, and comfortable working face to face with end users in a regulated environment.
If you enjoy clean change control, proper documentation, real production systems, and being trusted as the on site automation support person, this should be a strong fit.
If you need constant greenfield project work, heavy travel, or a fully remote schedule, this probably will not be the right role.
If you have Rockwell ControlLogix experience and want a stable on site automation role with proper benefits, sensible hours, and long-term backing from a serious automation engineering business, it is worth a conversation.
