About the role

Original posting from Candidhealth via Ashby

We are looking for a Controller (Director Level) to report directly to the CFO and serve as the financial bedrock of Candid Health. In this role, you won't just "run the books"—you will architect the financial infrastructure to support Candid Health's fast-paced growth. This role will be responsible for scaling our core accounting functions including close, technical accounting, controls, compliance, and reporting.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with practical operational leadership. You are as comfortable in the weeds of complex reconciliations as you are partnering with executives on long-term strategy.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Financial Governance & Scale: Own all day-to-day accounting operations including AP/AR/invoicing, payroll, tax compliance, and R&D tax credit filings. Own the month-end close process and manage our 3rd party accounting firm to ensure timely closes, accurate reporting, and high-quality deliverables.
  • AI & Automation: Uplevel our ERP system and implement scalable finance systems to automate invoicing, reconciliation, and procurement to handle our 200%+ year-over-year growth.
  • Internal Controls: Manage and own our internal controls and procurement processes.
  • Truth Seeking: Act as a "truth seeker" for the leadership team, providing granular financial breakdowns and actionable insights that go beyond standard reporting.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Experience: 8+ years of accounting experience, ideally in managing and maturing financial processes from Series B/C to later stages. You know what "good" looks like at scale but aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves to get us there.
  • Technical Proficiency: You likely started your career in the Big 4 and are proficient in all major accounting processes, including any O2C (Order-to-Cash), P2P (Procure-to-pay), H2R (Hire-to-Retire), and R2R (Report-to-Report).
  • A CPA and SOX experience is preferred.
  • The "Multiplier" Mindset: You are a "player-coach" type leader who wants to get into the weeds, build the spreadsheets, and set the systems up correctly yourself, so it doesn't break when we scale 10x tomorrow. You have a strong ability to navigate through challenges, multiple tasks, take ownership, and deliver high quality results.
  • Modern Financial Systems: You have experience implementing financial systems and are comfortable navigating modern data tools (SQL) to validate financial data at the source.
  • You are excited about the frontier of new technology in finance and proactively look for ways to use AI to eliminate "grunt work" in the accounting cycle.
  • Executive Advisory & Partnership: You have excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization. You thrive in ambiguity and can balance strategic foresight with hands-on problem-solving.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

The estimated starting annual salary range for this position is $215,000 - $255,000 USD. The listed range is a guideline from Pave https://www.pave.com/ data, and the actual base salary may be modified based on factors including job-related skills, experience/qualifications, interview performance, market data, etc. Total compensation for this position may also include equity, sales incentives (for sales roles), and employee benefits. Given Candid Health’s funding and size, we heavily value the potential upside from equity in our compensation package. Further note that Candid Health has minimal hierarchy and titles, but has broad ranges of experience represented within roles.

LOCATION

We are an in-person culture. We believe the best work happens when we are in the same room and our ideal weekly schedule is 4 days working from one of our offices (San Francisco, New York, or Denver) and 1 day working remotely.
