Job Description

Job ID: | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep our customers’ cloud services available. We work on complex problems with thousands of variables that impact the supply chain. This role is for a talented engineer who wants to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing scalable capacity at the lowest cost. You will collaborate across AWS with software, hardware, network, supply‑chain, security, operations, and other teams to ensure inclusive and innovative solutions.

The AWS Data Center Global Services team seeks a Controls & Technology Engineer to join the Controls Design Engineering (CDE) team. The primary responsibility is to track, document, share, and enhance global data‑center design standards focused on control, automation, and electrical power monitoring systems. The CDE team coordinates Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) designs worldwide and is the owner of associated specifications, points lists, basis of design, and scope documents within a large infrastructure engineering organization.

Responsibilities Maintain deep knowledge of building operations, mechanical plant strategies, BMS/EPMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line‑ups, one‑line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts. Manage data‑center redundancy, mechanical failure strategies, energy and water conservation best practices, and data reporting analytics. Operate safely in high‑security critical environments while maximizing productivity. Lead and facilitate collaboration with construction, programmers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers to achieve initiative goals. Create, maintain, and disseminate specification documents for global projects. Create, maintain, and disseminate project‑specific scope of work (SOW) documents and globally coordinate with regional project managers to review and finalize each project’s SOW. Screen vendors, review bids, support RFIs, and coordinate with external groups to define BMS/EPMS control standards. Serve as the central contact for internal and external requests concerning BMS/EPMS standards and manage information requests for new construction builds, existing site support, and legacy site enhancement projects. Interface with AWS cloud services and other applications to present, archive, and analyze accumulated data. Travel globally when needed to manage and support project initiatives. Anticipate roadblocks and risks while providing escalation management. Basic Qualifications Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or 5+ years of experience in building automation systems (BMS) and/or electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS) design and deployment. 2+ years of experience with data center or mission‑critical facility control systems. 2+ years of experience with HVAC systems, mechanical plant strategies, control programming concepts, low‑voltage electrical and/or electrical distribution systems, one‑line diagrams, and power monitoring. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the role. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field. 7+ years of experience in controls design for mission‑critical facilities. Experience with data center redundancy concepts and failure‑mode analysis. Knowledge of Modbus, BACnet, and other industrial communication protocols. Experience creating technical specifications and scope of work documents. Project management experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams. Experience with vendor selection, bid review, and RFI processes. Familiarity with AWS cloud services and data analytics platforms. Professional Engineer (PE) license or an equivalent professional certification. Experience with energy optimization and sustainability initiatives in data centers.
