Controls Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Insight Global is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join a globally leading automation company based in Rolling Meadows, IL, US. This role will help lead the design and execution of controls architectures for multi module automated systems, encompassing PLC controls, vision systems, cam/servo/air operated stations, and associated test and electrical devices. The position is responsible for delivering robust, compliant, and cost effective electrical and software designs by developing schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and release packages while adhering to the organizations standards, regulatory requirements, and ISO quality systems. The engineer collaborates closely with mechanical, assembly, supplier, and production teams to troubleshoot hardware and software issues, support system installation and validation, and drive continuous quality and cost improvements, while also mentoring junior controls engineers, guiding electricians, supporting customer design reviews, and contributing to internal standards, documentation, and project execution plans within defined schedules and budgets.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 3-5+ years of experience as a controls software engineer/ PLC programmer within the automation, automotive, or similar industry

• Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLC’s, HMI’s, Servo control, electrical design and machine vision systems (Cognex or Keyence).

• Extensive from scratch programming experience

• College degree in an engineering related field or equivalent experience.

• Ability to travel for 20-30% of the time across the US, Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica
