Controls Engineer - Distech Controls

Position Title: Controls Engineer

Department: Building Automation / Controls

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Dallas, TX

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with strong expertise in Distech Controls solutions to design, program, and commission Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Distech's EC‑Series controllers, ECLYPSE platform, and Niagara Framework, along with a solid understanding of HVAC systems and building operation sequences.

You will play a key role throughout the project lifecycle-from design and programming to field startup, commissioning, and turnover.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

  • Develop completeBAS designs usingDistech Controls standards, including:
  • Control schematics, riser diagrams, and network architecture
  • Points lists and equipment schedules
  • Sequences of operation for HVAC and building systems
  • Review mechanical and electrical plans to create accurate BAS designs.
  • Select appropriate Distech controllers, I/O modules, sensors, actuators, and network components.

Programming & Configuration

  • Program and configure Distech Controls ECLYPSE and EC‑Series controllers.
  • Develop graphics, logic, alarms, and dashboards within:
  • Distech's EC-GFX Programming wizards
  • Niagara N4 Workbench (when applicable)
  • Configure communication networks including BACnet/IP, Modbus, and EC-Net connections.

Commissioning & Field Work

  • Commission and troubleshoot Distech-based BAS installations.
  • Perform system testing, calibration, and verification of control sequences.
  • Support field technicians with wiring verification, device setup, and system checks.
  • Provide issue resolution and root‑cause analysis for system performance.

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical contractors, and client stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and version control of all programming files.
  • Provide technical support during turnover and training for facility staff.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in BAS or HVAC controls engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with Distech Controls platforms, including:
  • ECLYPSE controllers
  • EC‑Series programmable controllers
  • EC‑Net / Niagara N4
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems (VAVs, AHUs, chillers, boilers, heat pumps, VRF).
  • Ability to interpret mechanical documents, control diagrams, and electrical drawings.
  • Proficiency withBAS communication protocols:
  • BACnet (IP & MS/TP)
  • Modbus
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience with design tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Distech Controls Certifications (ECLYPSE, EC-GFX, Niagara).
  • Niagara N4 certification or experience developing station logic and graphics.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, switches, cybersecurity).
  • Familiarity with energy management strategies and ASHRAE standards.
  • Experience integrating third‑party systems via BACnet, Modbus, or RESTful APIs.
