Job Summary
We are seeking a Lead Protection & Control Engineer to support Transmission & Distribution (T&D) substation projects, including AC, HVDC, and FACTS systems.
This role involves leading design, coordination, and execution of protection & control (P&C) engineering activities while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives are met. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial systems, and BESS applications
- Develop P&C deliverables including:
- One-line & three-line diagrams
- AC/DC schematics
- Relay settings and wiring diagrams
- Lead design teams (local/remote) for P&C engineering execution
- Ensure interoperability of protection relays, SCADA, cybersecurity, and communication systems
- Work with IEC 61850 process & system bus architecture
- Perform design calculations (battery sizing, voltage drop, CT/PT specifications, etc.)
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (layout, commissioning, field personnel, vendors)
- Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and field testing activities
- Prepare engineering estimates and support proposal development
- Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with engineering standards
- Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned, and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power focus preferred)
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in protection & control engineering
- Experience with:
- Relay coordination and system protection schemes
- AIS & GIS substations
- Communication systems and maintenance practices
- EIT or P.E. License (or willingness to obtain P.E.)
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to travel up to 20% (including international travel)
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of ETAP, Aspen OneLiner (relay coordination, load flow, short circuit, arc flash)
- Familiarity with NERC-CIP cybersecurity standards
- Experience with grid interconnection and compliance
- Strong problem-solving and Lean methodologies
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Customer-facing experience with strong commercial awareness
