Job Title: Controls Technician
Job Description
Join our team as a Controls technician where you will play an integral role in the setup, commissioning, and re-commissioning of customer systems utilizing Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology. This position offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for growth, especially within software engineering and design teams.
Responsibilities
- Commission and re-commission customer systems that utilize DDC technology.
- Troubleshoot mid-level systems problems and assist others in resolving issues.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper system operation.
- Deliver turnkey projects on small projects budgeted for 80 hours or less.
- Manage unitary systems, small AHUs, basic CW/HW system, and front-end operations.
- Complete all required commissioning documentation and maintain accurate As-Built drawing packages.
- Submit paperwork timely, including time sheets, expense reports, and project status reports.
- Oversee total system operation from controllers to sensors, load software, and set up trends, alarms, and reports.
- Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment such as multi-meters and laptops.
- Conduct mid-level static commissioning of software programming.
- Provide site-specific training for owners/operators on the total system.
- Set up operator workstations with all associated software.
- Perform job database backups daily or as advised.
- Assist with project turnover to the Service Department.
- Communicate with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
- Track and record job progress, keeping the Project Manager informed.
- Maintain a daily log of job-related activities.
- Adhere to safety standards with a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
- Maintain computer and networking skills to support laptops and mobile devices.
- Understand the operation and control of mechanical equipment and their control sequences.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in building HVAC with a focus on building automation controls.
- Field experience and understanding of Automated Logic Controls.
- Ability to understand and navigate third-party control systems and integrations.
- Experience with Automated Logic and Phoenix software, including WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, LogicBuilder, InterOp 3.02, Alert, Draw, EDB, Eikon, Supervision, and Accel Works.
- Ability to manage multiple challenges across different disciplines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- HVAC, computer, electrical, and technician skills.
- Experience in installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in building automation, BMS, TCP/IP, and field service.
- Knowledge of electronics and usage of tools like oscilloscopes.
- Familiarity with Siemens, Trane, and Honeywell systems.
Work Environment
The position covers territories in NY and NJ, allowing candidates to drive their own vehicles with mileage and expense reimbursements. There is no requirement to report to Clifton daily as you can travel directly to job sites from home. The work involves typical hours from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with no on-call shifts in the install group, and includes climbing ladders and lifting up to 50lbs. Reimbursements are available for parking and tolls, and upon transitioning to a full-time employee, additional benefits like a company car, EZ pass, and company credit card are provided.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $50.00/hr.
