Job Description

Established Wealth Management firm based in Austin, TX is seeking a Chief Operating Officer for a key position within their small but growing team. The firm has a strong reputation within the market, a track record of success, and a loyal client base consisting of high-net-worth individuals & families. Services include asset management, wealth transfer, business succession, tax planning, risk management/compliance, and philanthropy oversight, amongst other areas. The COO will manage the firm’s day-to-day operations, financial oversight, administration, compliance, and growth strategies, while working closely with and reporting to the CEO.

Job duties will include, although not be limited to:

  • Hands-on management of the firm’s Compliance function, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards, and maintaining thorough and up-to-date policies & procedures
  • Ownership of the firm’s ongoing financial activities, including banking, budget monitoring, forecasting & analysis, cash management, and expense oversight, along with internal financial statements
  • Oversight of the firm’s technology platforms, including primary ERP system along with other tools and applications. Enhancing the firm’s overall technology utilization, while recommending upgrades and working with 3rd party vendors
  • Collaborating with Partners and the Advisory team to enhance the Client Service function through review & analysis of client experience topics; i.e. service offerings, execution, reporting, communication, and retention strategies
  • Serving as a key facilitator and presenter during Board of Director meetings, while preparing and presenting board reports and other ad-hoc requests
  • Managing a small team of staff, and supporting the growth of the firm through recruiting, retention, and staff development strategies
  • Spearheading special projects, strategic initiatives, and other firm development activities.

To be considered, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience, including prior leadership role within Wealth Management, Family Office, Professional Services, Investments, or similar sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree or certification such as MBA, CPA, CFP, or IACCP is preferred.
  • Previous background working for a small-to-mid sized firm is preferred, although not required.
  • Deep understanding of risk, compliance, and regulatory frameworks relevant to investments & wealth management.
  • Prior experience managing small-to-mid-sized teams, implementing process improvements and system/technology upgrades, and driving strategic initiatives.
  • Strong presentation skills, with proven experience preparing Board reports and presenting during Board of Director meetings.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface & collaborate effectively with Board members, key clients, and other business partners.
