Who You Are:

The Credit Operations Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the full credit function — from team management and analyst development to credit strategy, risk governance, and regulatory compliance. This individual serves as the operational leader of the credit team, ensuring consistent underwriting quality, policy adherence, and portfolio integrity across the organization. Working in close partnership with the Credit Officer and senior leadership, the Credit Operations Manager translates credit strategy into day-to-day execution, driving scalable, disciplined credit operations as the company grows.

What You Will Do

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of credit analysts, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Design and oversee ongoing training programs to develop analyst skills, keep the team current on industry standards, and ensure consistent application of credit policies
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide regular coaching and feedback to team members
  • Build and maintain a high-performing credit team capable of scaling with business growth

Credit Analysis & Decision-Making

  • Own credit decisions for smaller and mid-size deals, conducting thorough analysis of borrower financials, risk profiles, and deal structures
  • Collaborate with the Credit Officer on larger or more complex transactions, providing well-supported underwriting analysis and recommendations
  • Ensure all credit memos, underwriting packages, and supporting documentation meet the standards established by senior lenders
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex underwriting questions or borrower situations within the analyst team

Credit Strategy & Model Oversight

  • Support the design and ongoing iteration of credit risk frameworks, decision guidelines, and underwriting standards across lending products
  • Monitor credit model performance and flag trends or anomalies to senior leadership; contribute to recalibration discussions
  • Assist in the development of automated underwriting rules and decision frameworks to support scalable, consistent credit operations
  • Maintain and refine risk segmentation and credit policy guidelines in partnership with the Credit Officer

Compliance & Quality Control

  • Ensure all credit files meet internal policy requirements and are audit-ready at all times
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to applicable regulatory requirements, including AML, BSA, fair lending, and other relevant obligations
  • Identify gaps in file quality or underwriting process and implement corrective action plans
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates to the team; partner with legal and compliance on emerging requirements
  • Develop and maintain risk governance documentation, compliance procedures, and internal controls

Portfolio Risk Management

  • Oversee portfolio monitoring activities, ensuring existing exposures remain in compliance with internal credit policies and risk appetite guidelines
  • Support production of regular portfolio analysis including delinquency trends, vintage performance, and loss curves
  • Identify early warning signals within the portfolio and escalate findings to senior leadership with recommended actions

Process & Operations

  • Manage the end-to-end credit workflow, from application through approval, ensuring timely and efficient processing
  • Lead the review and ongoing updates of credit policies and procedures in partnership with the Senior Credit Officer, ensuring alignment with portfolio performance and market conditions
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Collections to provide credit perspective on deal structuring, portfolio trends, and workout strategies
  • Support cross-functional initiatives including new product development, system implementations, and process improvement projects
  • Oversee relationships with third-party data providers, credit bureaus, and risk vendors as relevant to credit operations

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of experience in commercial or consumer credit underwriting, credit risk, or portfolio management
  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading a credit team
  • Deep understanding of credit risk principles, financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, and loan structuring
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable lending regulations including AML, BSA, and fair lending requirements
  • Experience building or refining credit policies, underwriting frameworks, and operational risk controls
  • Familiarity with credit decisioning systems, loan origination platforms, and portfolio analytics tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present credit analysis and policy recommendations clearly to senior leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; advanced degree
