The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

The Metra Police Department serves and protects commuters using the Metra system and Metra’s property. The mission of the Metra Police is to safeguard the lives and property of the people they serve, to reduce the incidence and fear of crime and enhance public safety. Metra Police work to expedite issues with the commuting public and handle vehicle accidents and trespasser incidents on Metra railroad and property. Metra Police actively engage and work with first responders as well as local, state and federal agencies during service disruptions and partner with these agencies on security planning. Their work ensures the safety of Metra’s passengers and employees and reduces train delays.

The purpose of this position is to collect, evaluate, and interpret data from diverse sources—such as surveillance, databases, and field reports—to identify threats, predict behaviors, and support strategic decisions in law enforcement, and national security. The position transforms raw information into actionable reports, map intelligence gaps, and analyze the capabilities of criminal acts.

The primary duties include: Data Analysis & Synthesis: Parse vast amounts of information to uncover patterns, trends, and connections. Reporting & Briefing: Produce detailed intelligence reports, maps, and charts to advise decision-makers, such as Commanders, Captains or Detectives. Threat Assessment: Evaluate and communicate real-time, high-stakes information regarding terrorist, cyber, and criminal threats. Collaboration: Work with federal, state and local agencies to share information and mitigate risks. Monitor emerging threats to proactively track developments in global, regional, or organizational contexts. Identifying new risks early helps decision-makers prepare and respond more effectively. Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment. Works under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public safety, homeland security, criminal justice or related field is required. In lieu of a degree, experience in any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • In addition to # 1, must have five years of progressively responsible experience in intelligence analysis with a law enforcement agency.
  • Previous experience working as an intelligence analyst with a law enforcement agency.
  • Knowledge of data collection.
  • Skilled in gathering information from diverse sources, including classified materials, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and internal databases.
  • Skilled in credibility assessment: Evaluating the reliability and relevance of incoming information to filter out misinformation.
  • Skilled in report writing & briefing: Translating complex findings into clear, concise reports and presentations for police command and detectives.
  • Knowledge of pattern recognition: Analyzing raw data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential threats or opportunities.
  • Knowledge of regulations & policies: Awareness of relevant local, state, and federal regulations and policies that govern.
  • Familiarity with tools and software for data analysis, communication, and resource management.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects, prioritize tasks, and coordinate multiple activities during an incident.
  • Ability to accurately perceive the current situation, understand potential threats, and anticipate future developments using gathered intelligence.
  • Ability to possess a keen eye for detail to ensure plans and actions are accurate and effective, as oversights can have significant consequences.
