Job Description

The Department of BSD PSY - Lyons Lab at the University of Chicago is dedicated to transforming mental health through compassionate, innovative interdisciplinary care, pioneering research, and the education of future leaders. The Data Science Analyst provides crucial technical assistance, helping learners access and navigate online training systems and acting as a liaison between end-users and the learning platform. Under direct supervision, this role involves a broad range of operational activities, including collecting, organizing, and analyzing information from the University's various internal data systems and external sources. The Data Science Analyst also performs assignments related to data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis, and modeling. Key responsibilities include promptly monitoring and responding to LMS support messages via email and voicemail, providing clear, compassionate, and timely support to learners, and troubleshooting LMS issues, escalating when necessary. The analyst will collaborate with the LMS provider’s support team to identify, report, and help resolve technical issues, track patterns of recurring concerns, and work closely with the Technology & User Support Lead, teaching and learning specialists, and program administrators to improve learner support. Contribution to cross-team projects, such as data entry, communications, or general tech assistance, is also expected. The role assists in analyzing data to extract applicable information, performs research projects, and may assist staff or faculty with data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis, and modeling on an ad-hoc basis. The Data Science Analyst collects, organizes, and analyzes information from internal and external data systems, maintains and analyzes statistical models using best practices in machine learning and statistical inference, and performs maintenance on large and complex research and administrative datasets. This individual will respond to requests and engage other IT resources as needed, and perform other related work. Minimum qualifications require a college or university degree in a related field and less than 2 years of relevant work experience. Preferred qualifications include experience with Learning Management Systems and knowledge of Zendesk. Strong communication skills, patience, empathy, a commitment to learner success, and a detail-oriented, organized approach are highly valued. Comfort with technology, the ability to learn new LMS platforms, proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, excellent coaching abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team are also preferred.
