Confidential Opportunity: Data Science Manager, Healthcare AI
A high-growth healthcare AI company is hiring a Data Science Manager to lead a team working at the intersection of clinical data, machine learning enablement, and customer delivery. This is an opportunity to join a mission-driven organization building a large-scale platform that helps healthcare and life sciences companies develop responsible AI solutions using rich, real-world clinical data.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who has actually managed and developed data scientists, not just served as a senior individual contributor. The right person will bring a strong foundation in healthcare data, a track record of leading technical teams, and the ability to drive complex client-facing data initiatives from concept through delivery.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will lead a team responsible for building and maintaining AI-ready datasets in a cloud-based environment. You will partner cross-functionally with technical, product, and commercial stakeholders to curate multimodal healthcare datasets that support exploratory analyses, model development, and validation efforts for external clients.
This is a highly visible position for someone who enjoys operating as a player-coach: setting direction, managing people, mentoring talent, and staying close enough to the work to guide technical execution.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists, with direct responsibility for performance, development, and hiring
- Drive multimodal clinical data projects from early scoping through execution and delivery
- Oversee the creation of high-quality, AI-ready datasets derived from complex healthcare data sources
- Partner across product, engineering, and commercial teams to deliver client-facing data solutions
- Guide the exploration, cleaning, harmonization, and operationalization of new healthcare data assets
- Support the design and validation of structured and unstructured datasets across multiple source systems
- Establish high standards for code quality, documentation, data integrity, and delivery timelines
- Serve as a senior technical voice in conversations with internal leadership and external stakeholders
- Help shape scalable processes and data products in a fast-moving, growth-stage environment
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience directly managing data scientists, including coaching, performance management, and team leadership
- Strong preference for candidates with real people leadership experience, not just project leadership or informal mentoring
- Background in healthcare data science, biomedical informatics, biostatistics, or a related quantitative field
- Strong hands-on skills in Python and SQL
- Experience working with healthcare data environments such as EMR, claims, registry, imaging, or other clinical datasets
- Ability to translate complex technical work for both internal and external audiences
- Experience leading complex analytical projects with multiple stakeholders and tight timelines
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, collaborative, startup or high-growth environment
Ideal Background
- Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related discipline preferred
- Experience with healthcare interoperability and terminology standards such as FHIR, ICD, CPT, LOINC, SNOMED, NDC, or RxNorm is a plus
- Familiarity with AWS and modern data tooling such as dbt, Git, and scalable analytics workflows
- Exposure to multimodal data, including notes, imaging, waveforms, or streaming clinical data, is highly attractive
- Experience with OMOP, NLP, or imaging data is a plus
Why This Role Stands Out
This is a chance to step into a meaningful leadership role at a company working on one of the most important problems in healthcare: making real-world clinical data more usable, more trustworthy, and more impactful for AI development. The platform, data depth, and mission are compelling — but the real need is for someone who can lead a team well, raise the bar, and bring structure to highly complex healthcare data work.
