Apple is seeking a talented and experienced Data Scientist to join a cross-functional team focused on understanding and optimizing user engagement, retention, and growth within Apple Maps. You will partner closely with Product and Program teams, leveraging data to inform strategic direction and prioritization. The position offers significant scope to define and build the next generation of metrics and analytical frameworks. We are looking for a creative problem-solver who can innovate within robust privacy commitments, evolving the current metrics foundation into a comprehensive insights platform. Day-to-day responsibilities will span the full data lifecycle, from exploratory data analysis and metrics design to conducting deep dives, crafting executive reports and presentations, and building intuitive dashboards. Your responsibilities include designing, creating, and validating new metrics in user engagement, retention, and growth. You will build data products such as user segmentation models, churn propensity scores, and growth forecasting. The role also involves conducting in-depth analysis and deep dives to answer key business questions, uncover insights into feature usage, and identify drivers of engagement and retention. You will communicate with partners and leadership to influence product strategy and roadmap, and transform ambiguous product goals and business problems into well-defined, solvable data science challenges. Additionally, you will contribute to tools and automated data pipelines, primarily using Python and SQL-based ETL frameworks, to streamline analysis and improve efficiency. Minimum qualifications for this role include an MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Physics, Operations Research, or a similar quantitative domain, along with 2+ years of experience with data analysis at web scale or relevant work experience. Proficiency in Python and at least one database language, such as SQL or Snowflake, is required, as are strong communication and presentation skills. Preferred qualifications include prior industry experience with user engagement analytics and/or causal inference, proven industry experience with large data sets using technologies like Hadoop and Spark, experience writing pipelines for automating analytics tasks at scale, experience working in highly cross-functional teams, and experience leading projects of varying sizes and scopes. At Apple, base pay is part of a total compensation package, determined within a range that provides opportunity for progression. The base pay range for this role is between $134,800 and $245,800, dependent on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
