Position Introduction/Key Duties
Cimarron is seeking a Data Systems Engineer to support space hardware research and development programs by designing, building, and maintaining robust data systems that enable engineering execution, configuration control, and program visibility. This role requires expert-level Excel capabilities combined with a strong understanding of engineering data structures (BOMs, part tracking, test data, requirements traceability) and integration with enterprise systems (ERP/MRP, PLM, and program management tools). The individual will serve as a critical bridge between engineering, manufacturing, and program management-delivering scalable data solutions that improve accuracy, traceability, and decision-making across the product lifecycle.
Key Duties:
- Design and develop structured data models supporting Engineering Bills of Material (EBOM/MBOM), part lifecycle tracking, requirements verification and traceability, and nonconformance, risk, and action tracking.
- Build and maintain high-reliability Excel-based engineering data systems including multi-level BOM management and roll-ups, automated status trackers, and hardware build and test trackers using Power Query, Power Pivot, advanced formulas, and VBA/macros.
- Integrate and reconcile data between ERP/MRP systems, PLM systems, test data systems, and program management tools to ensure consistency across engineering and manufacturing datasets.
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools supporting hardware maturity and readiness, build and test status, material availability, and risk tracking for major program reviews including PDR, CDR, TRR, and MRR.
- Implement data validation rules, audit trails, and error-checking mechanisms to ensure alignment with configuration management and revision control practices.
- Identify inefficiencies in engineering and program data workflows and replace manual processes with automated, scalable solutions applying Lean/Six Sigma principles.
- Partner with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, and Quality and Test Engineering to translate technical and programmatic requirements into usable data tools.
- Train users and drive adoption of standardized data systems and configuration-controlled templates across the program.
Required/Desired Skills, Experience, and Education
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for consideration at this time.
- 5 or more years supporting engineering or manufacturing data systems, preferably in aerospace or hardware development.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel including Power Query, Power Pivot, advanced formulas, large dataset management, and VBA/macros for automation.
- Strong understanding of BOM structures (EBOM/MBOM), configuration management, and revision control practices.
- Experience with ERP/MRP and/or PLM systems.
- Ability to manage complex, high-volume datasets with precision and accuracy.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Data Systems, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Experience in space systems, aerospace, or high-reliability hardware development.
- Familiarity with systems engineering processes and requirements traceability.
- Experience with Power BI, SQL, Python, or data visualization platforms.
- Knowledge of environmental and functional testing workflows.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification or demonstrated process improvement experience.
- Experience supporting major program reviews such as PDR, CDR, TRR, or MRR.
