ABOUT US

Reframe designs and manufactures climate-resilient homes in distributed microfactories. Our Pixels-to-Parts (P2P) pipeline turns a site, local code, and a developer's requirements into a priced design, a permit set, and the machine files that build the actual house. We've already cut design-to-manufacturing time 30% in our first year. Next we plan to collapse the pre-contract cycle from 8–12 weeks to a single workday.

Housing is the biggest line item in most people's lives and the largest climate lever we can pull. Reframe is the software bet on fixing both. We are targeting climate-friendly housing, manufactured locally, priced to compete with code-minimum stick-built.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a Design Automation Engineer to help build the upstream half of P2P: the tools Reframe architects use with developers, and the handoffs with external consultants. You'd work inside Reframe's architecture engineering stream, alongside our architects and engineers. You're the person who turns the architect-plus-developer workflow into shipped software. Near-term, that's Revit automation: cutting value-engineering and costing iterations from days to hours, and fixing the exchange layer with external structural, MEP, and electrical consultants so they don't bottleneck us or lock us into their stack.

What we're building is a web application with a focused bridge to Revit, so web engineering is core to the role. But this isn't a "software fundamentals first, domain second" hire. We've found that people who can write code but don't understand how a building comes together hit a ceiling fast. The strongest candidates blur the line between the two: a BIM or CAD practitioner who became a real engineer, or an engineer with genuine depth in architectural workflows. Reframe's long-term stack is agnostic to any specific BIM tool, though near-term pragmatism means working in Revit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Longer-term, it's shipping the features that make the architect-plus-developer loop 10x faster: generation of compliant, priced design options organized as a tree, with real-time pro-forma recalculated at every branch; zoning and code compliance checked at every design decision; a predictive AHJ model that tunes each permit submission to the jurisdiction and reviewer before filing. Every option the architect shows a developer is already zoning-compliant, code-compliant, manufacturable, and priced. The architect keeps design authorship; your tools do everything else.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • 5+ years shipping production software in a team codebase (CI/CD, code review).
  • Strong architectural instincts for building iterable, maintainable systems. We want someone whose code a teammate can extend.
  • Real depth in how a building comes together and in how architects create and manage a project. Architectural training, or substantial experience working inside architectural workflows. Enough conviction to push back on a feature request, not just build what you're handed.
  • Working knowledge of a parametric or BIM design stack. Revit + Dynamo most relevant; Rhino + Grasshopper, Archicad, or equivalent counts.
  • Exercises good AI judgment. You've formed a critical, informed point of view on where and when to use LLM APIs and AI-assisted development and where not to. We don't require that you code with AI every day; we do require that you've thought hard about it and can defend your stance.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Revit API / Autodesk Platform Services / plug-in development
  • CAD automation at a manufacturing or industrialized construction company
  • Experience building AI-powered product features (generative models or LLMs inside a production pipeline) as distinct from using AI to assist your own development.

FIRST 12 MONTHS

  • A Revit/consultant exchange layer robust enough that external partners don't bottleneck our process or dictate our tooling.
  • Architect-side automation that cuts value-engineering and costing iterations from days to hours.
  • At least one production AI feature in the architect-developer loop (design-tree generation, real-time costing, zoning/code compliance, or our predictive AHJ model) shipped to real users.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The position is based on-site in Andover, MA. It's a full-time role. You'll own your surface area, ship weekly, and watch the houses you designed roll off the factory floor.
