The Role

As the Human Interface Design Portfolio Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our design portfolio strategies across the Human Interface Design landscape. We seek a dynamic professional with a strong background in program management, cross-functional team leadership, and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges while delivering outstanding results.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the end-to-end portfolio and resource management for the Human Interface Design organization, including Vehicle OS generations, Mobile Apps, Web Properties, Foundations, and Advanced UX workstreams.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Design Operations and various Design and Engineering Portfolio Managers to develop and enhance portfolio management processes that align with strategic organizational goals.
  • Leverage your deep knowledge of HID's ecosystem to facilitate resource balancing, capacity planning, and roadmap development for high-impact initiatives.
  • Proactively identify risks, constraints, and interdependencies early in the process, creating clear action plans to maintain team alignment and project momentum.
  • Prioritize the portfolio relentlessly to ensure we focus on high-value work, empowering teams to confidently forecast, plan, and execute their tasks.
  • Utilize your strategic influencing skills to align teams and leaders around shared objectives, ensuring efficient staffing and consistent delivery of work.
  • Exhibit professional courage and urgency, inspiring collaborators to engage fully, meet commitments, and navigate uncertainty adeptly.
  • Implement modern project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Lean) and utilize GM enterprise tools, including the Atlassian suite, Jira Advanced Roadmaps, and Power BI, to maintain operational rigor and visibility.
  • Communicate portfolio health, outcomes, and risks transparently to directors, senior management, and cross-functional partners, tailoring insights to each audience.
  • Provide thought leadership and mentor others to elevate the maturity of our portfolio management practices.
  • Travel may be required up to 25% to our office in Warren, MI for team collaboration and strategic meetings.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • BS degree in Business, Engineering, Human-Centered disciplines, or similar experience with demonstrated analytical and operational capabilities.
  • 7+ years of experience in Project Management, Product Management, or Operations leadership managing diverse and complex program portfolios.
  • Expertise in optimizing portfolios at scale, developing multiyear and cross-platform roadmaps, and managing high-dependency initiatives.
  • Proficiency in portfolio management frameworks and tools such as Atlassian suite, Jira Advanced Roadmaps, and Power BI.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and design workflows, converting them into actionable resource plans.
  • Skilled in creating data-driven forecasts and resource strategies for informed decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities to distill complex information into clear narratives for stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with an ability to influence without direct authority across various functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, leading teams through change effectively.
  • Composed under pressure, adept at managing escalations, reassessing expectations, and prioritizing competing tasks.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement in processes and operations.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically as needed.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 10+ years of experience leading project or portfolio management in complex ecosystems.
  • Experience working in environments undergoing significant transformation, demonstrating change leadership.
  • Capability to build and scale effective portfolio management and governance frameworks for long-term planning.
  • Familiarity with automotive product development or other tightly interconnected systems.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Six Sigma, or Certified ScrumMaster are a plus.
