Director, Mechanical Engineering (North America) - Data CentersCompensation: 225-250k base salary plus 35% bonus Location: US, Remote Travel: 15-20%A rapidly scaling data center platform is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead mechanical design strategy and delivery across a growing North American portfolio. This is a senior leadership role with ownership from early concept and product development through commissioning, influencing standards, innovation, and long‑term operational performance. The OpportunityThis role sits at the center of mechanical design, execution, and strategy. You'll lead the mechanical function for new and future data center developments, guide design standards and technical decisions, and partner closely with internal stakeholders across development, construction, operations, and sales.You'll manage a team supporting multiple concurrent projects, balancing cost, schedule, constructability, and long‑term reliability across a large-scale mission‑critical portfolio. Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Leadership & StrategyOwn the mechanical engineering vision across the portfolio, including design standards, best practices, and long‑term engineering strategy.Track and evaluate emerging technologies, evolving codes, and industry trends impacting data center cooling and mechanical systems. End‑to‑End Project OversightLead mechanical scope from site assessment and conceptual design through basis of design, construction documents, and commissioning.Ensure all deliverables align with applicable requirements (design standards, codes, specifications, and operational needs). Cross‑Functional & Client CollaborationPartner closely with construction, operations, market development, and sales teams.Support technical discussions during the sales lifecycle and act as a senior mechanical SME as needed. Team Leadership & QualityRecruit, lead, and mentor a high‑performing mechanical SME team.Oversee QA/QC, workload planning, and prioritization to ensure consistent, high‑quality technical delivery across projects. Target Profile15+ years of mechanical design experience (ideally 20+)At least 10 years dedicated to data center projects (hyperscale, colocation, or mission‑critical environments)Proven experience leading technical design teams across the full project lifecycleStrong understanding of how mechanical design decisions impact cost, schedule, constructability, and long‑term operationsComfortable operating in complex MEP + CSA environments and managing external A/E partners and vendorsWhy This RoleThis is a highly visible leadership opportunity to shape mechanical strategy at portfolio scale, with real ownership and influence over how mission‑critical facilities are designed, built, and operated across North America.
