Position Summary:
We are looking for a strategic and experienced Director of Enterprise Risk Management to spearhead the development and execution of robust risk management and insurance programs. In this pivotal leadership role, you will identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks across the organization while enhancing insurance coverage, claims management, and loss prevention strategies. As a key advisor to executive leadership, you will ensure alignment with our organizational goals and comply with regulatory standards, all while implementing cost-effective risk financing strategies. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and leads a team of dedicated risk management professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and continuously refine enterprise risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures to effectively identify and mitigate operational, financial, strategic, and other risks.
- Manage the organization’s insurance programs, including property, casualty, liability, and cyber coverages, negotiating terms, handling renewals, and collaborating with brokers and underwriters.
- Lead claims administration, implement loss control initiatives, and conduct incident investigations to minimize financial exposure and prevent future occurrences.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits, providing senior leadership with clear recommendations regarding risk tolerance and alternative risk financing options.
- Ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations as well as industry standards and contractual insurance requirements.
- Oversee risk management budgeting, managing expenses related to insurance premiums and third-party services.
- Foster strong relationships with internal departments to promote risk awareness and proactive risk management practices.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing risk management team, creating a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging risks, and best practices in risk management and insurance, making program enhancements as necessary.
- Prepare comprehensive risk reports and presentations for executive leadership and the board of directors.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Insurance, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in risk management, insurance, or related fields, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated knowledge in managing insurance programs and handling claims.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, risk financing techniques, and enterprise risk management frameworks.
- Proven leadership skills and experience building and managing high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in an insurance agency or carrier environment.
- Professional designations such as Associate in Risk Management, Certified Risk Manager, or equivalent.
- Experience in a regulated industry setting is advantageous.
- Proficiency in risk management information systems and analytics tools.
