Its approach emphasizes innovation in data center design, sustainability, and rapid deployment to meet evolving market demands.Design Engineering DepartmentThe Design & Engineering team leads the innovation, development, and execution of data center infrastructure across a global portfolio. This group evaluates new sites, manages cost and schedule in alignment with corporate objectives, and acts as subject matter experts throughout the full project lifecycle-from concept through commissioning.D&E partners closely with Sales, Operations, and Construction teams to deliver integrated, high-performance solutions while ensuring consistency and quality across both new and existing designs.At its core, the organization is committed to building critical infrastructure that enables global connectivity, innovation, and collaboration. Engineers are empowered with ownership and accountability, enabling them to make impactful decisions that align operational sustainability with cost and performance goals.Position OverviewThis remote role (U.S.-based) seeks a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead the mechanical design strategy and execution for current and future data center developments.The position is responsible for driving innovation, managing evolving industry standards and technologies, overseeing code compliance, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The role includes leading a team handling multiple projects and product development initiatives while collaborating closely with sales teams and clients throughout the lifecycle.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic LeadershipSet and execute the vision for design and engineering initiatives aligned with business objectives.Lead long-term planning for engineering programs, balancing innovation with operational excellence.Evaluate emerging technologies and design practices to maintain competitive advantage.Represent the organization in industry forums and maintain strong engagement with the data center community.Collaboration & InfluenceBuild strong partnerships across internal teams (Construction, Operations, Sales, Market Development) and external stakeholders (consultants, vendors, contractors).Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on design strategy and product innovation.Promote a culture of collaboration and idea-sharing across the organization.Communicate effectively through presentations and reporting to support decision-making.Decision-Making & ExecutionLead engineering efforts across the full project lifecycle.Make informed design decisions balancing technical requirements, cost, and business priorities.Oversee consultant and vendor selection and technology adoption.Drive continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned into standards and processes.Team LeadershipProvide leadership, accountability, and mentorship to engineering staff.Ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and quality expectations.Manage team workload and performance to deliver high-quality outcomes.Recruit and develop a high-performing mechanical engineering team.Core ResponsibilitiesLead all aspects of mechanical design and engineering, including site evaluation, conceptual design, basis of design, and construction documentation.Ensure deliverables meet all technical, regulatory, and contractual requirements.Develop and refine design standards aligned with industry benchmarks.Collaborate with operations teams to define requirements and support post-deployment performance.Provide technical support to sales and marketing efforts.Stay informed on new technologies and innovation opportunities within the data center sector.QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferredExperience15+ years in mechanical design and construction (20+ preferred)8+ years in leadership or management rolesDirect experience in data center environments requiredStrong background in multidisciplinary coordination (MEP and CSA)Deep understanding of design, construction, commissioning, and operations processesExperience with engineering tools such as CFD modeling and hydraulic analysis softwareSkillsStrong project management and organizational capabilitiesExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools, and NavisworksKnowledge of applicable codes and standards (including ASHRAE)Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilityHigh attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvementFamiliarity with AI tools for process optimi
