Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are looking for a Director of Product to join their team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a global EdTech company headquartered in London, delivering online learning and professional development programmes to corporate and individual customers across more than 30 countries. They are post-IPO, profitable, and in the middle of a significant product transformation, shifting from a content-led catalogue model to an adaptive, AI-powered learning platform. The product organisation is being restructured around that ambition, and the Director of Product is the most important leadership hire in that process.

THE ROLE

As Director of Product, you will lead a team of product managers across the company's core platform, learner experience, and enterprise product lines. You will set product strategy, define the operating model for the product organisation, and be the connective layer between commercial ambition and product execution. This is a role for a product leader who has built and scaled product organisations before, brings a clear strategic perspective, and can develop talent while driving results.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Define and own the product strategy across the company's core platform, enterprise offering, and adjacent product lines, ensuring it is grounded in user insight, commercial reality, and technical feasibility.
  • Lead a team of 4 senior product managers and their reports, setting direction, developing capability, and building a high-performance product culture.
  • Work closely with the CPO, engineering leadership, and commercial teams to ensure the product roadmap is well-sequenced, properly resourced, and clearly communicated.
  • Drive the product organisation's operating model, including discovery and delivery processes, prioritisation frameworks, and cross-functional rituals.
  • Own the product metrics that define success across acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention, and hold the team accountable to them.
  • Represent product to the executive team, board, and external stakeholders, including enterprise customers and strategic partners.
  • Lead the integration of AI capabilities into the product in a way that is coherent, differentiated, and genuinely valuable to learners and buyers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, with at least 3 years in a senior product leadership role managing managers.
  • Background in management consulting, strategy, or a senior analytical function is a meaningful advantage and characteristic of the team's hiring profile.
  • Proven track record of defining and delivering product strategy in a complex, multi-product or multi-market environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen; able to connect product decisions to revenue, retention, and competitive positioning.
  • Exceptional communicator and talent developer; able to inspire a product organisation and hold a board-level conversation with equal ease.
  • Deep understanding of product-led growth, SaaS metrics, and modern product operating models.
  • Experience with AI or personalisation in a consumer or enterprise product context is a strong advantage.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £155,000 - £195,000, determined based on experience and scope.
  • Meaningful equity participation commensurate with the seniority and strategic importance of the role.
  • Additional benefits, including private health cover, pension, and leave entitlement, are detailed as part of the full offer package.
