What You'll Do

Principal Private Infrastructure Debt team is growing! We’re looking for a Director, Portfolio Manager to join our team.

The Director is responsible for senior‑level portfolio management and credit oversight for a diversified global infrastructure debt portfolio, with accountability for ongoing monitoring of investment performance, reporting, and proactive risk management aligned with client Investment Management Agreements. The role also involves underwriting of Infrastructure U.S. Private Placements (USPP) and Project Finance transactions and collaborates closely across the Principal Private Credit platforms, reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Debt.

Portfolio Management & Credit Oversight

  • Lead portfolio management and credit oversight for a globally diversified infrastructure debt portfolio, including ongoing credit surveillance, portfolio risk assessments, valuation oversight, and coordination with key constituents including legal, treasury, risk, finance, and operations teams
  • Senior client liaison for active and prospective clients

Credit Analysis & Underwriting

  • Play a key role in underwriting and executing USPP infrastructure and project finance transactions by executing in fundamental credit analysis, financial models, and downside scenarios, supporting investment decisions and participating in investment committee processes as applicable.

Client, Market & Platform Engagement

  • Act as a sector subject‑matter expert by contributing market insight to investment evaluation and portfolio positioning, supporting sourcing efforts alongside origination teams, and participating in client engagement, branding, marketing, and thought‑leadership initiatives that enhance franchise visibility.

Stressed & Underperforming Asset Management

  • Monitor and manage underperforming or watch‑list exposures by supporting borrower and sponsor engagement, assisting with remediation or restructuring strategies, coordinating internally on waivers or amendments, and ensuring timely escalation of credit issues.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CFA expected
  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure debt, private placements, project finance, and/or structured credit
  • Strong credit analysis and financial modeling skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Established market relationships in the Infrastructure USPP and Project Finance markets
  • Experience across global infrastructure sectors
  • Strong understanding of project finance documentation, including intercreditor agreements, security packages, and covenants
  • Experience with stressed or workout situations is a plus

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$211000 - $285000 / year

Salary Details

The base salary range for this role is $211,000 - $285,000 as indicated above. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and alignment with the role’s responsibilities.

In addition to base pay, this role participates in an annual profit share bonus plan.

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
