Job Title: DERMS IT System Engineer (Expert) – Contract

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced DERMS IT System Engineer to support a leading utility client, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), in advancing grid modernization and distributed energy integration initiatives.
This is a high-impact technical role focused on DER integration, 2030.5 protocol, and site commissioning within a smart grid environment. You will work closely with electrical distribution teams, aggregators, and vendor platforms (including Schneider Electric) to support deployment and interoperability across multiple control sites.
Key Responsibilities
🔌 Commissioning & Interoperability
- Lead and support site commissioning activities for DER integration projects
- Coordinate with distribution engineers, aggregators, and vendors for deployment and testing
- Ensure smooth interoperability between field devices, control systems, and DERMS platform
- Support SCADA integration, signal validation, and control site implementation
- Track and manage commissioning schedules, issues, and deliverables
⚙️ System Support & Integration
- Provide L1/L2 support for DERMS platform and associated integrations
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with internal teams and external vendors
- Support integrations across:
- SCADA / ADMS systems
- Weather, GIS, and API services
- API gateways (Apigee), secure file transfers, and cloud interfaces
- Assist with system upgrades, patches, and configuration management
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in IT systems or utility/energy environments
- Hands-on experience with 2030.5 (SEP2) protocol or similar DER communication standards
- Strong experience in commissioning / deploying field or grid-connected systems
- Knowledge of electric distribution systems, SCADA, ADMS, or DMS
- Experience with system integration, APIs (REST), and hybrid cloud environments
- Familiarity with TLS, PKI certificates, IAM/SSO authentication mechanisms
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with DERMS platforms
- Background in electric utilities or grid operations
- Familiarity with tools such as SCADA, GIS, OMS, or OSIsoft PI
- Experience with vendor platforms like Schneider Electric EcoStruxure
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
