Position Summary

The Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Strategy & Analysis team is a key part of the NBA’s DTC Monetization group. The Monetization group focuses on growing the NBA’s digital DTC business globally (including League Pass subscriptions, advertising, NBA ID membership, and overall digital platform), through data-driven insights and decision making. They work dynamically within a matrix organization to align efforts across Partnerships, Marketing, Finance, Content, Product, and Membership, among others.

The DTC Strategy & Analysis team plays a key part in growing the global direct-to-consumer business at the NBA. They own business performance analysis, lead both short-term and long-term forecasting efforts, drive on ad hoc special projects and advise senior leadership on key strategic decisions. This includes preparing complex financial models, presentation materials, industry peer group comparisons, evaluation of new business opportunities, and other analyses as needed. In collaboration with the broader Monetization group and senior leadership, this function helps set the overall strategy for the DTC business, using data-driven insights to fuel growth. The ideal candidate has a firm understanding of all the key metrics for a DTC business and has a strong intuition for how they impact performance and decision making.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead financial & strategic analyses to inform the strategic direction of the NBA’s global DTC business
  • Develop complex financial models at a granular market/cohort level with limited oversight, to grow the DTC business across subscription, advertising, partnerships and other monetization streams
  • Analyze key performance drivers across all areas of revenue and expenses, including e.g. pricing and packaging, user acquisition, engagement, and retention – and aid in the development of high impact strategic initiatives to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders on league-wide initiatives and media strategy, providing insights & analysis for relevant DTC components
  • Prepare compelling presentations to communicate business performance to senior leadership as well as regional and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead performance tracking against departmental and company goals through the creation and distribution of pacing, reforecast and presentation materials on a regular cadence
  • Perform ad hoc analyses to drive high impact decisions and/or set targets for key initiatives and analyze subsequent performance
  • Analyze complex financial information across industry comps to serve as benchmarks for internal analyses and inform strategy

Required Education/Professional Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in e.g. Investment Banking, Strategy Consulting, Private Equity, Media, and/or Tech industries
  • Work experience in subscription-based media preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes

  • Outstanding financial modeling and problem solving skills
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about the (sports) media industry
  • Ability to drive workstreams forward with limited guidance and to apply a high-level, strategic perspective
  • Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized
  • Curiosity and drive to uncover root causes of unexpected outcomes
  • Flexible and adaptable working style; can easily accommodate changes in priorities while managing toward broader goals
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; ability to explain and defend analyses, and distill complex information into digestible insights for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to build productive relationships with colleagues across different functions and seniority levels, including ability to work directly with senior level executives
  • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, diversity, and trust
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and ability to leverage latest AI tools to scale output

Salary Range:
