Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Auburn, Washington, Seattle Safety designs and manufactures crash impact systems to measure and improve vehicle safety. Since the launch of the ServoSled catapult acceleration system Seattle Safety has become the dominant crash sled system supplier with a leading global market share. We also design and manufacture crash barrier systems and high-intensity LED lighting systems. Our testing equipment improves vehicle safety by giving engineers and researchers the best crash simulation systems for producing accurate and repeatable impacts. Our systems are installed in automotive and aerospace facilities in 18 different countries in Asia, Europe, North and South America.

About the Position

Seattle Safety is searching for an electrical / automation engineer who will be the primary designer of our control panel assemblies, subsystem assemblies and machinery wiring. This position will design new high and low voltage industrial electrical systems, as well as maintain and upgrade the existing designs around the world. People with broad technical backgrounds, working from and adapting a wide range of established research techniques, a curious intellectual nature and an ability to collaborate in an engineered-to-order environment thrive at Seattle Safety.

Duties of the job include:

Design

  • Engineer and lay out control panels ranging from low-voltage instrumentation to high amperage 3-phase motor control.
  • Design, source and size components for electrical systems incorporating PLCs, Large VFDs, motors, servomotors, transducers, sensors, valve drivers, EtherCAT, and various other motion systems
  • Develop, build and proof test new R&D prototypes and products.
  • Develop, release, and maintain electrical schematics, drawings and bills of materials using ePLAN.
  • Program industrial automation equipment and PLC’s. Learn new programming languages when necessary and archive and maintain program code.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical assemblies using tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and EMI probes in controlled environments, and at customer facilities worldwide.

Coordination

  • Collaborate with Project Management, Sales, Control Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Production, and Installation to ensure electronic/electrical projects are on-time and meet requirements.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with international customer’s engineering personnel.
  • Revise and improve custom I/O boards with outside designers and manufacturers.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and assistance on the assembly and wiring of control panels and equipment for in-house technicians and onsite customers.

· Create and maintain the documentation of standard work processes; lead the development of assembly instructions, processes, and procedures.

Compliance

  • Comply with electrical code and regulatory requirements world-wide.
  • CE certification.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in electrical engineering
  • Experience designing industrial automation and power distribution; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with 3-phase systems, motors, and VFDs.
  • Knowledge of US and International electrical codes (NEC and IEC)
  • Experience using AutoCAD, ePLAN or similar software for electrical schematics.
  • Experience with EtherCAT or other fieldbus networking protocols.
  • Experience with AC and DC for power and control.
  • Experience with programming languages C/C++, Labview etc.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience with safety PLC and safety software.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
