Build the Future of Regional Transit

GEMS is seeking experienced design, engineering, scheduling, cost, and program delivery professionals to support upcoming Sound Transit capital improvement and expansion initiatives. These assignments support critical transportation systems, state-of-good-repair programs, tunnel modernization, rail systems, electrification, permitting strategy, and digital transformation.

We are actively building a bench of qualified candidates for multiple upcoming task orders.

Open Positions

Electrical / Power Systems Engineering

Senior Electrical Engineer – Backup Power Systems

Lead assessments and design recommendations for facility backup power systems including:

  • UPS systems
  • Emergency generators
  • Solar + battery storage feasibility
  • Resiliency planning
  • Facility electrical upgrades

Electrical Infrastructure Engineer – DSTT

Support assessments and upgrades for the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel electrical and mechanical systems.

Rail Systems / Transit Engineering

Rail Systems Engineer – West Seattle Link Extension

Provide systems engineering support for major transit expansion including interface coordination with civil design teams.

Switch Machine Engineer

Lead modernization assessments and preliminary engineering for switch machine replacement programs.

OCS Engineer – Overhead Catenary Systems

Assess OCS heater options, anti-icing systems, and operational solutions for rail yards and I-90 corridor.

Data / Digital Transformation

Power BI Developer – Capital Delivery Transformation

Build dashboards and reporting tools supporting capital project delivery, executive metrics, forecasting, and performance visibility.

Planning / Strategic Studies

Fare Gates Program Planner

Support further studies for fare gate implementation at selected stations including design, network upgrades, and stakeholder coordination.

Life Cycle Cost Analyst / Permitting Strategist

Evaluate feasibility of an internal Sound Transit building department / self-permitting model.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Transit, rail, utility, aviation, or large infrastructure experience
  • PE license (for engineering roles preferred)
  • Primavera P6 (for controls roles)
  • Power BI / analytics (digital roles)
  • Design-build / public agency experience
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
