We are looking for a proactive, independent Electrical Engineer to support engineering projects for our utility clients.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical distribution systems
- Design electrical distribution systems based on project requirements, including the layout of power distribution equipment, transformers, switchgear, and protection devices.
- Conduct load studies to determine the electrical demand and usage patterns, ensuring that the distribution system can handle the expected load safely and efficiently.
- Select appropriate equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear, considering factors like voltage levels, load capacity, and safety standards.
- Assess and analyze power quality parameters to ensure a reliable and stable power supply, identifying and addressing issues like harmonics, voltage sags, and transients.
- Plan and execute maintenance activities, such as routine inspections, equipment testing, and troubleshooting electrical faults to ensure system reliability and minimize downtime.
- Manage electrical distribution projects, including coordinating with other stakeholders, overseeing construction and installation activities, and ensuring projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
- Maintain accurate records, documenting system designs, changes, and maintenance activities, and preparing reports to communicate project progress, system performance, and compliance status.
- Lead technical scope, schedule, financial management, and Contract Term/ Conditions
- Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and changes in electrical codes
- Strong understanding of electrical safety practices and adherence to safety protocols.
- Knowledge of electrical hazard identification, protective measures, and safety regulations
Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Coursework in power systems, electrical distribution, electrical machines, and control systems
- Proficiency in electrical distribution systems, power system analysis, protection and control systems, transformers, switchgear, and electrical codes and standards is essential
- Certified Electrical Distribution Engineer (CEDE) or relevant certifications from organizations like IEEE (preferred)
- PE is a plus (not required)
- Experienced analyzing electrical systems, troubleshoot faults, and devise effective solutions to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Experience on power distribution projects, substation design, or distribution system operations
- Demonstrated experience with establishing and following processes and procedures, as needed
- Experience managing a variety of projects
- Experience with design optimization, value engineering; cost reductions, erosion control, and slope protection
- Experience providing recommendations on land lock access sites
- Experience with risk management and QA/QC techniques
- Software: AutoCAD required
