The Opportunity
We are seeking a part-time Electrical Engineer with strong, hands-on experience in ETAP to support power system modeling and analysis efforts, with a particular focus on Arc Flash Studies. The ideal candidate will have at least 3–5 years of experience working within ETAP, demonstrating deep familiarity with system modeling, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis. What You’ll Do
- Support power system modeling and analysis using ETAP, with a focus on Arc Flash Studies
- Assist in building, updating, and validating electrical system models within ETAP
- Input, organize, and verify large datasets to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Contribute to short circuit and coordination study development
- Review single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, and specifications to support modeling efforts
- Support the preparation of Arc Flash Study deliverables and reports
- Assist in reviewing projects and plan sets, providing technical input as needed
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate project execution
Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years of experience working with ETAP, with strong proficiency in system modeling and analysis
- Hands-on experience supporting or performing Arc Flash Studies
- Familiarity with electrical power system components, including switchgear, transformers, cables, and protective devices
- Understanding of short circuit and coordination study inputs and methodologies
- Experience with data entry and validation within power system modeling software (ETAP preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, especially when handling large data sets
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general data management practices
- Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles and power distribution systems
Tools & Systems:
- ETAP (primary tool; heavy daily use for system modeling and analysis)
- Microsoft Excel (data entry, validation, and organization)
- AutoCAD or PDF markup tools (for reviewing single-line diagrams and drawings)
- Document management systems (for organizing project files and data)
What This Role Is NOT
- Not a design-heavy engineering role focused on creating new electrical systems from scratch
- Not a field-based position requiring regular site visits or hands-on installation work
- Not a purely theoretical or research-focused engineering position
- Not a full-time position (with immediate expectation), though growth opportunities exist
- Not a role requiring extensive client-facing or business development responsibilities
- Not suited for candidates seeking minimal detail-oriented or data-driven work
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Become proficient in company workflows, standards, and expectations for ETAP modeling and data entry
- Accurately input and validate electrical system data within ETAP with minimal supervision
- Contribute to Arc Flash Study deliverables by supporting model development and report generation
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail with low error rates in data entry and model updates
- Effectively interpret single-line diagrams and translate them into ETAP models
- Build familiarity with project documentation, file structures, and data sources
- Collaborate smoothly with engineering team members and respond to feedback quickly
- Show increased efficiency and confidence in handling assigned ETAP tasks independently
How Success Is Measured
- Accuracy and quality of data entry within ETAP models (minimal errors and rework required)
- Timely completion of assigned tasks and adherence to project deadlines
- Ability to follow established workflows and maintain organized, well-documented files
- Contribution to successful completion of Arc Flash Studies and related deliverables
- Attention to detail when interpreting drawings and inputting system data
