Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Electrical Engineer III leads the design and execution of electrical systems for mid-to-large scale automation projects. This role includes full design responsibility, technical reviews, safety compliance, and field implementation. EE IIIs actively contributes to internal standards development, mentor junior engineers, and serves as the technical lead on multiple concurrent projects. This role requires up to 25% travel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

System Architecture & Standardization

  • Design scalable electrical systems that adhere to project scope, budget, and performance goals.
  • Standardize electrical drawings, BOMs, and part libraries across project types.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives to enhance quality and reduce design cycle time.

Technical Leadership & Execution

  • Lead electrical system development including power distribution, panel design, safety circuits, and integration with PLC systems.
  • Conduct peer reviews, identify risks, and ensure compliance with UL, NEC, IEC, and NFPA standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues on-site and remotely and provide direction to installation partners.
  • Deliver and maintain redline, as-built, and final drawing packages.

Team Development & Mentorship

  • Provide structured mentorship to Electrical Engineers I & II.
  • Lead internal workshops on technical topics and design methodologies.
  • Guide junior engineers through project delivery expectations and escalation paths.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Controls Engineers to ensure full electro-mechanical alignment and control integration.
  • Work with Project Managers to forecast resource needs and support budgeting efforts.
  • Coordinate with vendors, fabrication partners, and internal disciplines to manage design handoffs and changes.

Strategic Growth & Innovation

  • Identify technical trends and recommend strategies to integrate emerging technologies.
  • Lead prototype development or trials for new components, tools, or design methods.
  • Influence roadmap for design automation and system optimization tools.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering with a focus on automation or material handling systems.

Other Key Skills

  • Expert in AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN for design and documentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of power distribution, VFDs, PLC interface wiring, and industrial safety.
  • Experience overseeing subcontracted panel fabrication and field installation teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% for commissioning effort and support as well as field leadership.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and cross-discipline coordination skills.
